Book Reviews of The Magic School Bus Inside the Human BodyBook Review: proud to be curious and intellectual - how wonderfully un American! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great, almost un American book in that kids are told that it's OK, even wonderful and wondrous to be science geeks, be curious. Love the Frizz when she says "take chances, get messy, make mistakes," and encourages her students to explore. In a society that elevates sports and violence for boys, and beauty and cattiness for girls, this series stands out for encouraging gender neutral intellectualism and academic achievement. My geeky 5 year old can't get enough, having finally found fictional characters that reflect her and encourage her. Factual substance-wise, I as a 40 year old have learned tons.
Book Review: Hilarious, fantastic, fascinating, inventive education! Summary: 5 Stars
I discovered these books when my son was 5 and we were in a trial year of homeschooling. Both of us were fascinated, by Ms. Frizzle, the magic shrinking bus, the fantastic field trips and funny Arnold. The main text is good, the pictures are great and the comic book style conversations and binder paper reports on the sides of the pages are fabulous. We both learned important things about the solar system, human body, water refineries, the earth and the ocean in a very fun, creative, imaginative and impressive way. Read these books with any child you know, laughing and learning together!
Book Review: packed with information Summary: 5 Stars
Ms. Frizzle is taking her class on a memorable field trip through the human body in this entertaining book featuring the beloved eccentric teacher and her curious class. My only complaint is that the pages are so busy with information that it's impossible to sit and really read the whole book, but perhaps it's best to let a child's curiosity guide you through a number of readings rather than trying to get everything in at one sitting. Concepts are expressed clearly and with humor. Justly popular with young students.
Book Review: a great book out of a great series - a review by Eli (age 7) Summary: 5 Stars
This book is really out of this world. I have been hooked on the magic school bus series. I can't wait to read more books in the series. The inside the human body book is full with very interesting facts and I learned so much from reading it. Arnold doesn't know where the bus is and is trying to find it. He doesn't even know that it is actually inside him. Then Arnold sneezes and finds the bus right next to him. He doesn't understand how he didn't see it before.
Book Review: Lots of fun and very educational! Summary: 5 Stars
My kids and i love this book!! it explains the parts of the body and their functions very clearly. when i'm reading to the older ones or all of them i read all the comments and reports along the sides, when i'm just reading to the little ones (3, 1) i read just the text since that's about how much time they have patience for! and my kids get a huge kick out of the fact that the bus goes into a real person in this one.
