Book Reviews of The Lucky OneBook Review: Sparks Hits it out of the Park! Summary: 5 Stars
After 2 dogs (At First Sight and True Believer) and 1 so-so book (The Choice), Sparks is back in fighting form. This book rocks! It has all the elements of a great story...the dastardly villain, the scruffy hero, and the beautiful princess. Throw in an ailing grandmother and a gangly, nerdy son and you've got yourself a bonified page-turner. I couldn't wait to go to bed each night so I could crack open The Lucky One. That's the ultimate in praise from me because I usually hate going to bed. I gave the book to my brother yesterday because I thought he would like it. He's read about 3 books in his life, and he said he, too, was glued to it. He especially liked reading about the war in Iraq and he appreciated all the military references. One thing that bugged me, however, was Sparks' use of the word "pull" whenever anyone took a drink of beer. He would say "Thibault took a long pull of beer." For some reason I would cringe each time that term was used (6 times in this book.) I mean c'mon, who says that? Aside from that little issue I thought The Lucky One was one of the most enjoyable books I've read in several months. Highly recommended for men, women and teens. A great classic tale of good versus evil.
Book Review: A Real Heart-Wrencher Summary: 5 Stars
I have to admit that this book started a little slow for me, compared to Nicholas Sparks' other novels I've read, but it definitely didn't disappoint me in the end. I'll spare the details of what the plot is about - other reviewers have talked about it enough and there's a handy description of it at the top - but what I will tell you is that this is another Nicholas Sparks novel that will be hard for you to forget, or put down. You will fall in love with the characters he's so skillfully crafted, you will laugh with them, you will shed tears with them, and you will connect with them as if they are real people that you know.
You will also marvel at how the lives of these characters are all coincidentally interwoven with each other in some strange way. You will wonder how Nicholas Sparks manages to center his stories around the same general theme of love and fate, but still continue to shock you time and time again, without fail.
The Lucky One is a true heart-wrencher, at its finest. It is truly another unforgettable masterpiece by Nicholas Sparks. But, don't take my word for it. Go read it for yourself. I dare you not to be hooked.
Book Review: A great hero - and not who you think! Summary: 5 Stars
I haven't read all of Nicholas Spark's novels but this has to be one of the better ones!! I read it on a peaceful afternoon with the autumn leaves (I hate to say it) drifting by the window. The book fit right in.
The idea of a photograph affecting so many lives has been long in coming. I don't remember another story like it.
Logan is a survivor of 3 tours in Iraq who feels that this photo that he found there brought him through. He is obsessed with the picture of the girl standing by the ferris wheel and sets out to find her.
Elizabeth is a teacher with a young son and an aging grandmother who runs a kennel. Keith is her ex-husband who has managed so far to discourage anyone who seems interested in his ex-wife. Ben is their son who is too gentle to measure up to his father's expectations.
And then Logan finds them and the story really begins! It's gentle and absorbing and makes you glad you read it.
And my favorite hero?! Zeus, Logan's dog. I absolutely loved him!
This book is a really good read. I wonder who will be in the movie.
Book Review: Heart-warming Summary: 5 Stars
While serving in Iraq, US Marine Logan Thibault finds a photo of a woman. His best friend, Victor, believes this photo is Logan's good luck charm and what's kept them safe. When he returns back from the states, this friend convinces him that he owes the lady in the photo a debt for keeping him safe. Dealing with personal loss and the inability to deal with life away from combat, he sets out on foot from Colorado to North Carolina in search of a lady he found in a photo, not sure if he'll find her or not.
The story opens with Deputy Keith Clayton, who will be Logan's adversary. He's also the ex-husband to the woman in the photo, Elizabeth. Although he didn't plan for it to happen, they fall in love. But that's not the end of the story as readers will find. Logan's roll in Elizabeth's life is much larger than either could have predicted.
The characters were rich and full with a Thomas Kinkade feel to the story. I absolutely loved the book from cover to cover.
Book Review: Sparks Never Disappoints Summary: 5 Stars
Sparks has done it again. He made my eyes burn, from fatigue, that is. I was determined to finish this book today and I did. Hooray! (I started reading it about two weeks ago, but never had the time to really get into it.)
What a great storyteller Sparks is. As I neared the end of the book I was about to curse him, though. I didn't want it to end the way he was leading up to. I don't want to ruin it for you, so I won't go into too much detail. In a nutshell, it's about a guy who has stumbled upon a photo that his best friend insists is a lucky charm, keeping Thibault - or Thigh-bolt, as the meanie character Clayton refers to him - safe from harm. The story follows Thibault from the hell of Iraq to a small town in North Carolina, as he searches for the girl in the photo. It is a fabulous love story with an exciting ending that will keep you turning pages, while hoping for the best. Another very-deserving best seller for Sparks.
