Book Reviews of The Lucky OneBook Review: Simply an Exceellent Read & I do not usually read Love Stories! Summary: 5 Stars
My coming upon this book was very unusual and totally out of the normal for me. First of all, I do not generallay read "LOVE STORIES". I am more so into Theology and Personal Development books. I was taking my Mom to a Doctor's appointment one day and as I went to get her something out of the Vending Machine, this young lady who was sitting on this bench caught my attention. Yes, she was attractive, but I also notice that she was very deep into what she was reading.
During the time we were there, I ended up walking past her 3 more times. Each time her concentration never waivered. On the third trip past, when I going to move my truck closer to pick my Mom up and I commented to her that she was really into that book. She looked up with a nice, but simple smile and responded that it was a great book. Not a lot of words, but I could clearly tell she was enjoying it very much. So I did not want to disturb her any longer, but finally on my last trip as I was walking my Mom to the truck, I noticed she was still there and still as focused as the first time I went past. I for some reason had to know what she was reading. She was wearing a very nice Gold Necklace with a Cross, so I thought perhaps it was a Theology book or some type of Doctrinal book that might interest me.
So I politely asked her if she minded if I asked her the name of the book and she just as politely gave me both the name and the author. The unusual part of this is that I went out that evening and bought the book. The title had really caught my attention. I even started to grab a couple other of Mr. Sparks books (I believe they were At First Sight and True Believer), but again this was not really my subject of interest so I thought I would start with one. That was on February 3rd. I finally finished it yesterday!
Now for my comments. I taught the book was fabulous. I loved the characterizationn (to include Zeus and especially Nana, she reminded me of some I knew and some of her comments sounded like something this person would say). There were storylines that really caught my attention and the book just seemed to flow smoothly. Probably much more so the rainfall that flooded the rivers as mention in some of the more suspenseful parts of the book.
This is the first time I have ever writtrn a review on a book I read and I know most of what I wrote about was how I came to read this, but trust me, for someone who was out of his realm as far as subject matter, this was a great read. Bootom line is, I enjoy a good book no matter what the subject. I am a strong believer in the more you read, the better you continue to be at reading. I also enjoy a good author and I was impressed with Nicholas Sparks enough to give him another shot!
Finally, the thing I enjoyed most was that it was not so much as Love Story that a man who simply enjoyed romance such feel insecure about reading it. I also came to find out that he also wrote "A Walk To Remember". I have not read the book, but have watched the movie several times and consider it one of my favorite! I will be picking up that book and the others I put back.
Thanks to that Young Lady, whomever she was!
