Book Reviews of The Love DareBook Review: Excellent resource! Summary: 5 Stars
My wife and I have been together for 21 years and although we never stopped loving one another, our marriage had gotten a little boring and stale. Too many other irons in the fire such as kids sports, jobs, different schedules. I bought a copy of this book after watching Fireproof with my wife and she and I are reading it together and going through the dares together. I can already tell that she and I have both realized how we had taken the other for granted and had not made time for each other in a long time. It will definitely make you appreciate your spouse and want to do the little things that were so important in the beginning of your relationship.
I recommend doing the dares together. If you don't, your spouse might not truly realize what you're doing as you go through the dares and you could wind up with hurt feelings.
Buy the book for your special someone, read the book together, do the dares together, and allow yourself to fall in love with that person all over again. I have fallen in love with my beautiful wife again and can't wait until I see her each afternoon after work so I can hug her and tell her how much I love her, each day and every day.
The book is an excellent resource for couples. I rate it very highly!
Book Review: It's all about the love Summary: 5 Stars
I sought The Love Dare out of my personal need and desire to improve my marriage. As an Episcopal priest I had fallen into the obvious trap of meeting everyone's needs ahead of my wife's and family's. I promised to love, honor and keep her and was failing to do that properly. I found the book's counsel to be superb and it opened my eyes to my shortcomings and set me on what I feel is the right path to the true joy and love we should have in the covenant of marriage.
Further, I feel this book's lessons on love are easily adaptable to any and every relationship we have. If we truly believe we are to Love God and our neighbor as ourselves, then that love will be patient and kind. It will never be boastful, arrogant or rude. It will hope all things, expect all things and endure all things.
It is a Christian book and I am a Christian. With that confession, the book helped me to more fully understand the way the Lord wants me to love, as Christ loves me. Not just in spite of my faults, but undertsanding that love is often the means of correcting and healing those same faults and the wounds they cause.
Powerful stuff! I commend it fully, and I regularly offer it to anyone who is struggling in their marriage.
Book Review: Life changing Summary: 5 Stars
I saw the movie in which this book was featured. The movie and the book deals with marriages that are ok and some that not ok. This book however aside from all the other books that i have read with exceptions to the Bible and other inspirational books is a treasure. It not only help you with your marriage no matter what shape it is in but exponds upon 1st Corinthians 13, which is the love chapter. The book serves a purpose to help us to love one another as ourselves, "agape love". God wants so much for us, however we tend to get in opur own way. Love dare challenges us to dare to love outside the box. So many people are so strong but are you strong enough to love, the way God entended.
This book definitely is a hard book because it helps you see love and yourself.Either you choose God or yourself(Flesh). If we say that God is love why not put it into action.
This book is not only for marriages but for everyone, for if you proclaim that you love the Lord and that he is soon to come back, then the word says that you will know them by their love. Dare to love the way God wants you to love, let us show the world that God is love and step outside the box.
It allows you to see that love is not a feeling but a principle you choose, love.
Book Review: Dare to Try Summary: 5 Stars
I had planned to wait until I completed the 40 days before writing this review. But I have come to decide that it won't matter if my husband and I reunite to determine this book a personal success. My circumstances are different than most. My husband & I have been separated for almost a year and living 2,000 miles apart. You would think that would make doing the daily dares difficult. I do it all by email. I give a brief review of that day's topic and then I talk about what I would do "if I were home". My husband swore he'd delete the emails without opening but evidently he couldn't bring himself to do that. I'm only on day 16 and we are communicating by phone and our last conversation he said "if you come home, we'll need to take things slow". A month ago he said he couldn't wait until the year was up to file for divorce. Like in the movie - don't do anything about ending the marriage until you give it just 40 more days. I am prayerfully hopeful that this will be the first 40 days of our new life together and a wonderful testimony to others in trouble. But, if not, the insight about myself that has been revealed day by day will make me a better person in any relationship. Good luck and God bless.
Book Review: Marriage the way God intended Summary: 5 Stars
This book truly helps couples (like my wife and I) see how far our modern day superficial marriages fall short of the Biblical pattern of marriage. There is huge need for this book, because there is such a lack of male spiritual leadership in today's marriages. Many husbands are busy fulfilling selfish desires with internet pornography, sports, success, money, etc., while neglecting their wives and children. I am told by God in His Word (Ephesians 5:25) to love my wife as Christ loves His church. This means to love her sacrificially to the point of giving my life up for her if necessary, because she is a God-given treasure. This book is great for men and women, but for all the husbands out there, I challenge you to be a real man of character and integrity, get your heart right with God by repenting of your sin and trusting in Christ, and start loving your wife and children the way God intended. The only way our 10 year marriage has been able to last is because God was gracious in saving us from our sin. He transformed our hearts, and gave us a Christ-centered marriage. No matter what the world tries to tell you or sell you, there is only one way to run a marriage, and that is with Christ as the boss.
