Book Reviews of The Long Hard Road Out of HellBook Review: Awesome Summary: 5 Stars
I am a fan of Manson's music, but it was with much trepidation that I read this book. Two things concerned me: One, would this be some stupid, purposefully shocking book with little or no real value and poor writing, or, two, that I would read things about Manson's life and see things about him that would detract from my enjoyment of his music. Luckily, neither one of these things happened to be true. The book is very well written and reveals things that actually increased my enjoyment of Manson's music. This book is at times very deep and moving, and at times simply informative about Manson's life and early career. I enjoyed it immensely and have read it several times, sometimes underlining fascinating passages. Definately worth reading for Manson fans and maybe even for people who have never heard the music. Certainly of higher grade than any of those typical unauthorized biographies and publicity books.
Book Review: Who would have thought manson could be funny? Summary: 5 Stars
I highly recommend that you dont read this if you dont have a strong stomach. Once you get past the lengthy (extensive) details of Mansons sex life, there is a solid, likeable and involving story that only Manson could write. Dry, sardonic humour stains every page, and although it is in intentional bad taste, you cant help but like several of the characters involved. If your a satanist, theres a chapter or two on Anton Lavey and how Manson became a reverend (? ). The highlight of this book for me, however, is how it is physically put together. Anatomy sketches and cross sections mark each page, the chapters are divided into cycles like mansons Antichrist superstar, and small pictures of the people involved are included on the sides. Simply looking at the pictures proves fascinating. If you like anything anti-mainstream, then this book is worth it, if only for the classic one liners.
Book Review: Man or monster, you gotta love him Summary: 5 Stars
I can't stand here and tell you whether or not Manson is a writer of integrity, a strong person, an intelligent person, or a person of morals and philosophies. My personal opinion is that he is all of these things. But the book held me enthralled for so many different reasons. The most enthralling moment of all was the chapter on the creation of "Antichrist Superstar," an amazing chronicle of how a disturbed man retreated into his past (and to the beginning of his book) to escape the wretched whirlpool of his life, faced terrors about himself that had afflicted him for years, and come out stronger and refreshed, like the Antichrist Superstar described in the album (which, incidentally, meant so much more to me after reading this segment). His section on "The Rules" is a welcolme amusement that never fails to crack me up. I was truly touched by his story.
Book Review: Manson is AMAZING Summary: 5 Stars
I have always been a big Manson fan, not just of him but his whole band. So i really wanted to read about him and find his story and some way to further understand his lyrics. This book was the answer. I don't read a lot/I hardly ever finish books. I read this book in a week! Its so addictive I was reading it during classes. It is so beautifully written and when you read it, its hard to believe that THIS is manson taking/writing this. He talks about his childhood, relationship with his parents, band members and lovers. It takes you to the core of Manson to when he was Brain Warner and you understand his transformation. And because this is Manson, its DEAD honest, like right to the point. Its so surreal and interesting. It also mentions Trent Reznor and how the band started. After you read it you start looking at the world differently. Like his music, this book blows your mind...
Book Review: This book is about Christianity Summary: 5 Stars
This is not an autobiography. It can certainly pass for an autobiography, but the real purpose of the book is an outlet for Marilyn Manson to state what events came together to lead him where he is today: the world's leading figure against Christianity. This is where the book leaves off. Since then, Marilyn Manson has become more than the definitive anti-Christ, and evolved to be at his very core an artist who stands against Everything. And he does it with a grace, originality, and subtlety that is so hard to find in many other artists today. Many who read this book wonder what happened to him. Where did he go wrong? The people who ask this are unfortunately the ones who he is trying to reach the most. A better question is not what went wrong in his life to lead him where he is today. The question is what happened to everyone else, and why is Marilyn Manson the only one?
