Book Reviews of The Long Hard Road Out of Hell

Book Review: I LOVE THIS MAN!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Marilyn Manson proves he is an intelligent, insightful man in this autobiography. It's fascinating!!! He is very well-written and talented. He has no illusions about himself; instead of asking for hero worship, Marilyn/Brian shows us his true face, admitting his weaknesses, calling things as he sees them, and being very open and honest about the events and people in his life and how they've affected him.
I highly recommend this book for fans and non-fans alike. In fact, if you are not a fan and read this book, I'm betting you WILL be as soon as you've finished reading. Brian Warner has always been intense, even in youth, but he found a wonderful outlet for all his angst in his creation of Marilyn. His talent continues to grow and surprise; not only does he write the songs for his band, but he is a photographer and writer as well (check out his photos of his honey Dita Von Teese in Playboy [Nov I think]). He is a passionate, talented man and should not be discounted just because he chooses "darkness" as his platform. We all hide our darkness within; all of us are capable of being the anti-christ (you HAVE to read his definition of this - it completely makes sense!). It is to this part of our being that Marilyn speaks - and every single word is worth hearing.

Book Review: One of the world's most feared men is exactly that: a man.
Summary: 5 Stars

The first words that come to mind when someone mentions Marilyn Manson are what? "Deomon", "AntiChrist", "Satan"? Well, there's one word left out: "human". Despite what most religious fanatics that are frightened of diversity and change would have you think, there's no getting around the fact that Marilyn Manson - born Brian Warner - is still a human being. Subject to the same hardships, burdens, and emotional dilemmas that we all are, as shown in this finely written autobiography, "The Long Hard Road Out Of Hell". Within its pages lies the life of who could very well be the most hated man in America, from his childhood, to a little while after the completion of his groundbreaking album "Antichrist Superstar". In the pages between, you'll find the events, the good and the bad, that shape and mold the troubled Brian Warner into one of the world's great inspirational performers, Marilyn Manson. This book is truly a great example of the hero's (or in Manson's case, anti-hero's) journey, and would probably even make a great movie if there wasn't the utter certainty that it would be boycotted by every self-righteous Christian authority in existence. Do I recommend this book? Most definately.

Book Review: An Amazing Book, this is one a page turner
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first heard about this book, I have to admit, I was intrigued to know what a man like Mr. Manson would write, let alone whether or not he could actually get it published (there are some really sick accounts in here y'all).

I first read "The Long Hard Road Out of Hell" in the Spring of '98, and I could not put it down! For those who may not know, Marilyn Manson (formerly known as Brian Warner) was born and raised in Canton, Ohio, and attended a very strict Christian school, where the teachers used to play metal records and suggest subliminal messages. The kids were told that if they listened to rock music they would go to hell. Of course, our hero would buy the records and sell copies of them at school to his classmates, getting suspended from school, and ridiculed by the other kids for being different... This book conveys that message very well, (Be Yourself, don't let anyone tell you how to live your life) it shows how even a mega rock star can have a normal upbringing, and it gives great examples of what not to do.

In summation, read this book if you are a fan of the Reverend's, or you are just looking for a great read. Just a warning: This book is not for the faint of heart!

Book Review: Fifty Million Screaming Christians Can't Be Wrong, Can They?
Summary: 5 Stars

What I liked about the book: I enjoyed the insight into Marilyn Manson's life; I would recommend this book to any Manson fan. I think that this book gives even hardcore fans some new information. I would not however, recommend it to anyone without a open mind or a non-Manson fan because some people would just look at the book as more incriminating evidence. This book was good because you can finally see what Marilyn Manson's life was like and also how he was feeling at some points in his music writing process.

What I didn't like about the book: I think that at sometimes this book gave you too much information. The book talks in-dept about some of Marilyn Manson's drug use and sexual experiences, which can be overwhelming at times. Some parts of Marilyn Manson's life wasn't exactly explained in detail either; some things I wanted to know that he hadn't answered in any of the interviews. But since he wrote the book I suppose he didn't want to share now either.

Bottom line: If you are a Marilyn Manson fan, or are interested in his life, or you just want to find out the truth about some rumors, or you want to dig up dirt on him then the book is well worth the

Book Review: A glimpse into Hell
Summary: 5 Stars

The Long Hard Road Out of Hell written by Marilyn Manson with Neil Strauss is the autobiography of singer Marilyn Manson (a.k.a. Brian Warner). Every Manson fan should read this book, as well as everyone that hates what Manson does and stands for. I think both extreems or anyone that is indifferent can learn something interesting from reading this book. This way everyone can understand and not just assume what Manson is about. The book describes Manson's childhood, his transformation into Marilyn Manson, and his decent into the Anti-Christ Superstar, which was the album Manson finshed at the end of the book. In the book he describes what went on backstage, on the tours before Anti-Christ Superstar, these things were more then demented. The way it is described, however, is facinating, which makes it even more apalling, but hard to put down. His story is a one of abuse- mental and psyical, drugs, sex, and rock music. It is funny and frightening all at once. Simply a good book to read for everyone no matter what opinion they have about Manson. It reminds us that Manson is a person, he's had a tough life, and the book explains how he has dealt with it.
