Book Reviews of The Long Hard Road Out of Hell

Book Review: Indepth Of The Mind Of Another Hero Besides Che Guevarra
Summary: 5 Stars

His book is long and goes into detail of what his child hood was like. If you are not a big fan of him, you are not going to like it. But if you are obsessed with him or think as him as one of your gods, then I strongly recommend this book. He explains the twisted childhood he had in a funny yet smart manner. In one instance he was forced by his neighbor to undress and play naked jail-mates. And in another instance he saw his own grandfather masturbate. If you are truly a fan, you already knew this with the song "Kinderfield" from the album "Antichrist Superstar". He also makes several references to other famous people such as Anton LaVey, the Black Pope, and Ozzy Osbourne. He has several pictures in the book. That is what makes it so great. It is not just words and words without any graphic content. At the middle of the book, he has about 6 pages, back and front, all dedicated to show his beauty in color so the whole world could see. After this book, you will feel that you have known Manson like if he was your own brother, or sister. I, after reading this book, knew Manson left and right, up and down like the back of my hand. Just to let you know, his first album is Portrait of an American Family. The best song on that album is Lunchbox. The second album is Smells Like Children. And the best song is Sweet Dreams. The next album is the Antichrist Superstar and the best song is The Beautiful People. Then he disappointed millions of his fans, including myself with his not-so-best-work Mechanical Animals, what a shame. After that, I didnt feel he was the true god for me. So I discontinued keeping up with him. But his most recent album is Holy Wood. But all in all, this book is pretty great. If you love Manson, or even like him, you will surely like his book. Also, I strongly recommend his tour Dead To The World. It is worth the time and money. What else can I say? You will very much enjoy it, I guarantee it.

Book Review: An amazing depiction of the life of the Antichrist Superstar
Summary: 5 Stars

I thought this book answered a lot of questions that I had always wanted to know about Marilyn Manson, and also Trent Reznor. I had always been curious about the relationship between Marilyn and Trent, and although he didn't go into a lot of detail about their personal relationship, the information that was given I was very thankful for, considering what a solitary person Trent is. I found comfort while reading this book, finding myself remembering moments from my childhood similar to his. Growing up in a religious family, feeling brainwashed by your church, and then in your teens you begin to open your eyes and realize that there is more out there. I grew up in a small town like Brian Warner (Marilyn Manson), and I also felt like I would never be able to get out of this hell-hole but this book has given me inspiration. After seeing how many drugs he did, and considering how many drugs I do, it is very interesting to see that he still managed to do something amazing. And as he said in a recent interview "It seems like once artists quit doing drugs, their music starts sucking." Which is a true statement in my eyes. I think the hell that drugs bring into your life cause such an internal and external struggle that it gives you a million things to scream about, a million things to write about, and a million things to think about. All these ideas while Manson was on drugs are what created "Antichrist Superstar." Without drugs, this album would not exist, Manson would not exist. While I do not recommend drugs, I find it interesting reading about the personal hell that artists have gone through with drugs. I wish Trent Reznor would write an autobiography and give the sort of view into his life as Marilyn Manson does with "The Long Hard Road Out of Hell." 5 stars without a doubt, no matter how much you know about the Antichrist Superstar, I guarantee you will learn something you didn't know in this book.

Book Review: Truly a Long Hard Road from Hell
Summary: 5 Stars

I was always a Manson fan, I was just always into that sort of thing...the darker side of human culture, perhaps it was merely a sub concious thought that drew me to his music because years later when I started to read deeper into the words in his music I realized what a certified genius this man was so I picked up the book and began reading it, was one of the last people around me to have read it, but It was one of the few books that I just cannot put down, hours of sleep deprivation went into this book. It gave me an understanding to the mans life that I never could have gotten through his wonderful yet cryptic music but thats alright because he is talented that way. Its true that I want to get into a musical career and its true that I am a bit dark and these things could contribute to why I loved the book so much but for the sake of it I think it was well written. Very well written, probably more so now that he has been through what he has by getting his music career going. I dont see how most people can read this book and still not understand what this man is trying to do in his life because he explains himself so openly and so innocently in his morbid own way. Marilyn Manson is truly one of the more creative and evolved human beings on this earth and everyone who hates him should understand that they are partially responsible for his presence here, and If they would read this book, maybe they wouldnt be so stupid; too bad that influence doesnt change people, people change themselves. This is a wonderful book, I cannot wait for his next book "Holy Wood" coming out sometime in February 2001, I recommend this book to basically, well, anyone; which is why I gave my copy to a friend this last Christmas. Meaning Ill have to purchase another copy, lol. This book has been Sincerely recommended by; The Viral InfectioN.

Book Review: Brilliant autobiography, to be appreciated even by non-fans
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is co-authored with Neil Strauss, who is a master of the biography genre. I picked it up solely on the strength of Strauss's name and not because I am a Manson fan. This is a masterpiece of an autobiography and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes reading about life in the fastlane and unusual characters. Hearing Manson's story behind the music made me want to explore his music more, but you definitely don't have to be a fan to appreciate this fine piece of literature.

One of the highlights of the book is reading about the Antichrist Superstar tour through Manson's tour diary. This was the tour that was constantly in the media for supposed crime and disgrace and violence. During the tour and the media frenzy, I always thought Manson was out to make headlines and shock, but to hear the story in his own words, he didn't have to do a heck of a lot to provoke the American Family Association. They invented enough on their own to make Manson into a scarier caricature of who he already was.

Manson is depraved and twisted, and reading some of his narrative definitely has a gruesome allure. There's also a softer side here, that of a confused boy who first heard heavy metal music when it was played backwards over his Christian school's PA system to show the students the depraved Satanic messages it carried. Who wouldn't want to get into heavy metal after that? Manson was also repeatedly wounded by women and lacked healthy relationships.

In this book, Manson disputs some of the rumors surrounding him, via a list of fake information posted by "fans" on the internet. I certainly had my eyes opened as some of the Manson myth was dispelled.

Highly recommended to any music fan, pop culture fan, or fans of the memoirs of interesting people.

Book Review: Made in Manson
Summary: 5 Stars

My frist impression of this book? WOW. Manson has been criticized a million times, and this book gives reason. This book can be read by anyone, anyone who has never even heard his music will still find this book highly addivctive. I have read several biographies and autobiographies (the dead, mccartney...) but none of them have a down to earth feeling and they all talk about technical aspects of their lives. They dont tell about their shortcomings, drugs, sex....ect. But manson gives a full dose of his life from the time he was a baby till the point when his single (The Beautiful people) reaches No.3 in the charts. This book is so explicit and raw that it makes it painfully normal but that same time extraordinary. Each one of us can relate to this book in some way or the other. You might hear some Goth kids come up and say "I'm different and this book is just like my life." Thats rubbish. This book is for all us no matter what clothes we wear or what our background is. Its about life in a "normal" world that happens everyday seen through the eyes of someone with excellent ideas and visions with a view to change it. And yes, he too is normal and ordinary trying to make his dreams come true and break away from the conformity of society. This book should be used by every one as a model to not only believe in yourselves, but also to acknowledge your shortcomings. Soccer moms and Businessmen alike should quit their demented and disgusting repetitive life and try to find something new. This book teaches us that life never stops....whether you are me or Marilyn Manson. Written simple and brilliant.

Book Highlight: Manson's explicit details about his rock star sex life.
