Book Reviews of the The Long Emergency: Surviving the End of Oil, Climate Change, and Other Converging Catastrophes of the Twenty-First Century

Customer Review: Wake Up And Smell the Dystopia
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is well worth the time and money if you are interested in learning more about how we are ravaging the Earth and sealing our own fate in the process. Kunstler's book is a futuristic bullet train ride through a post-apocalyptic, wrecked landscape we once referred to as modernity. The formula is not that complicated: too much reliance on a resource that is disappearing, too much consumption, too many people on this Earth, and too many people who do not feel like paying attention to the impending crash.

Kunstler begins his book with the famous Jungian phrase that people do not like too much reality. Well, we are sliding into an ugly future and yet no one seems to want to talk about it.

This book is riveting, frightening and powerful. It is an excellent overview of humanity's obsession with "progress" and the consequences of that obsession. Kunstler's book confirmed my worst fears: we are destroying the Earth while simultaneously convincing ourselves that the credit line is limitless. His projection for what society will look like is fascinating and chilling. Welcome to the desert of the real.
