Book Reviews of The Little Prince

Book Review: Amazing
Summary: 5 Stars

Sometimes children's novels are the best books. This book would fall under this category. A little prince lives on a planet and tends his flower and volcanoes. He visits earth and meets some people on the way. The story tells of some life lessons he learns and teaches. One of the greatest things about this book is the message of finding what's important in life. That is one of the hardest things to do sometimes. We end up doing things and not realizing how they are affecting us and what impact they are having on our lives. Sometimes we need to stop and smell the roses. Sometimes we need to work and rake our own volcanoes. And sometimes we need to move our chairs so that we can see multiple sunsets. It's all about priorities and perspective. Another kids book I really enjoyed was Maniac Magee.
Another book that was an allegorical book is The Alchemist

Book Review: My all time Fav
Summary: 5 Stars

I read the Little Prince when I was in school. Over the years this book has grown over me. I love every page of this book. It has a strong message for everyone. Many of us sleep walk through life, some sleep walk all the time. We don't realize how precious our little life is on this little planet.

The essence of this book for me lie in these lines spoken by the fox to the Little Prince:

"What is essential is invisible to the eye,"
the little prince repeated, so that he would be sure to remember.

"It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important."

"It is the time I have wasted for my rose-"
said the little prince so he would be sure to remember.

"Men have forgotten this truth," said the fox. "But you must not forget it.
You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.
You are responsible for your rose..."

"I am responsible for my rose,"
the little prince repeated, so that he would be sure to remember.

Book Review: This book is a life-long friend -- something new everytime!

My mom bought me this book when I was about 10 years old. I liked the pictures and the story captured my imagination. It seemed special, especially since my mom gave it to me.

I read it again when I was about 16 and was blown away. I cried and cried. The insights I had gained between 10 and 16, I discovered, sat in the story, like little sparkling jewels half buried in sand.

I read it again when I was about 22. Again, the depth of this little book surprised me, and again I was in tears.

The last time I read it, I was about 25 and felt no less amazement than before at the spiraling depths of this simple story. (This book always makes me cry.)

This is a book that grows with you. The story is enchanting and contains within its pages so many precious lessons, like little secrets -- keys to life -- revealed to the reader in stages, as the heart and mind grows and opens enough to perceive them. This book is a pure treasure, and I recommend it for everyone, young and old. I look forward to reading it again... and again... and again.

Book Review: Surprisingly appealing to my children
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently read this edition aloud to my eight-year-old twins, and they were completely captivated by the simple story of the a little prince from a tiny planet who finds himself in the desert befriending a downed pilot.

After reading aloud four action packed, magical volumes of Harry Potter, I assumed this classic would seem pale by comparison. Never underestimate the taste of your children! Feed their brains the best literature you can find that they are capable of understanding, and watch them grow as readers and human beings. My children loved the story, identified with the little Prince's disdain for the hurried, goal-oriented perspective of adults, and understood the notion of "taming" another living creature as a metaphor for forming emotional ties.

At this age, they are at the cusp of discovering that literature can convey meaning at several levels, and to share the excitement of this process with them is a joy. There are many wonderful classics to share with your children, and this is one of them.

Book Review: [...]
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't know how to begin to describe The Little Prince. In some ways it is like reviewing love itself. While many books have touched me emotionally, this short children's story has gone farther and deeper than any other. Everything about it is perfection: sweet, sad, flawed perfection. It is a tale of tears. It is about loving so much that you would embrace pain, even death, for the beloved, of loving sorrow because it comes from the beloved. It is about allowing yourself to be tamed even if it hurts.
Love is a goal in and of itself, a goal that the Little Prince learns to embrace at great cost to himself, but it is not the pure, perfect little one who I love most, nor the hardened but softening adult narrator. My true soul mate is the Fox who invites the Prince, pleads for the Prince, to tame him, to make him his own even though it brings tears and heartbreak. Oh! To love like that! That is the joy and sorrow of human existence, the gift of life. This book is perfection.
