Book Reviews of The Little Prince

Book Review: A thought-provoking children's story to enjoy for a lifetime
Summary: 5 Stars

I am not sure how I can best explain this book, and how I can exprime the emotions it causes in me. I read it first a number of years ago in French, and ever since then it was been my staple gift for people - anyone who does not have a copy of The Little Prince, I promptly spend the nine dollars it costs me so that more people can understand its beauty. Its like I have a circle of effect around me in which everyone has read The Little Prince because of my influence.

I cannot praise it enough. It is a children's story with layers, and adults can enjoy the more philosophical portions of it. For a children's book, it is sad. I have read it out loud a number of times and I always choke up at the end, as well as my listener. The story is touching and memorable, melancholy but optimistic. And every time after you read it (especially if it is with your child), you can go out at night and look up at the stars and ask, "Has the sheep eaten the flower?" And you will see how this book can make everything change!

I cannot suplicate you enough to permit yourself the pleasure of reading this story!

Book Review: MAGIC BOOK
Summary: 5 Stars

A lot years ago a man wrote a book that was a preview of the deep crise that the people would live. This man is Saint Exupery, in my opinion the best writer of france, him best book is "The little prince".
the book introduces characters of symbolisms: the king, the accountant, the geômetra, the fox, the rose, the solitary adult and the serpent, among others. The little prince lived alone in a planet of the size of a house that had three volcanos, two assets and an extinct. He also had a flower, flower of great beauty and equal pride. The pride of the rose that ruined the peacefulness of the world of the little prince it made him go to a trip that brought finally to the Earth, where found several characters that made him to discover the secret of what it is really important in the life. It is a work that display a deep change of values, that teaches as we made a mistake in the evaluation of the things and of the people that surround us and like those judgements to take us to the solitude. We surrendered to our daily concerns, we became adult in a definitive way and forget the child that we went.

Book Review: Tres Magnifique!
Summary: 5 Stars

What hasn't already been said about this charming book, The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince). Although it's a children's fable, it could easily be relatable to people of any age. What makes The Little Prince quite charming for children is how it takes you into a chimerical, imaginative, and creative world that's similar to the fables they're used to reading (such as Aesop's), and for adults, how it reminds us how simple and magical the world used to be when we were young. As an adult, I felt like a child all over again from reading this book. Back in those days, I used to raise flowers and snails since I was an only child and couldn't have pets inside of the house. Of course, I was considered strange for caring so much about these things that are the most ignored and pointless to most people. Seeing the Little PRince's relationship with his rose and the fox reminded me of my own experience with nature. This book has other philosophical dimensions as well, but at best I feel that this is a story that still, despite its depth, be looked upon through the eyes of a child, even if you're 18, 30, or 60.

Book Review: don't let the language bother you.
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was one of the first books I've read by my own will, and the language i read it in was neither French nor English.

I wanted to read it again as an adult, and thought an English translation would do better justice.
So I picked up Richard Howard's translation and honestly, I liked it.

Woods and Wakeman's translations have merits of their own and I can see why people are not satisfied with Howard's translation. However, I think a translation is meant to be read as a translation.

It's difficult to tell a story written by another person and perfectly carry the same spirit even in the same language as the author.
Translating it into another language, culture and a whole new century must be even more difficult.
Considering the fact that this is only a translation of an original work, I think Howard did pretty good.

the content is beautiful regardless of the shortcomings of the process of the language you read in.
I hope those little linguistic flaws won't distract you from seeing the charm of this story.

Book Review: The Little Prince
Summary: 5 Stars

I like The Little Prince because of its characters. The person who is narrating really seems interesting. He apparently has a wild imagination as his drawing of a boa constrictor inside an elephant seems like a hat! I really love that idea. This book is highly humorous and one of my favorites. It's interesting that the little prince has this idea about grown-ups that they can't really understand everything.

I also liked the moment when the narrator drew the sheep in a box. I didn't understand why it pleased the little prince so much. I felt sad when the snake bit the prince even though he was going back to his planet. I think this book is a novel classic and the author has to be praised for his ingenuity in thinking up such humorous ideas which are compelling to read. An example would be of the Turk who changed his outfit to a European outfit and his idea was approved while when he was wearing a Turkish outfit they mocked him. The illustrations are exquisite and pleasing to the eye. All in all this is a wonderful great classic which I enjoyed a lot.
