Book Reviews of The Little Prince

Book Review: Passing The Little Prince to the next generation
Summary: 5 Stars

When my 8-yr old son was telling me about the books he wanted to read 2 days ago, The Little Prince came to my mind. We then read the pages showing here at Amazon ~ we were cut off after page 4 and he said he really liked it so I ordered it right away. We received it today (thanks for the fast shipping as always! It arrived one day earlier) and already couldn't wait to read it together! This was one of my favorite books at middle school, and passing it to my son was a sweet pleasant experience. I like the translation (by Richard Howard, Year 2000)! The paper was bright white and glossy with original illustrations beautifully printed ~ I'm very satisfied with everything in addition to the story/translation for such a small price and think this book is truly very inspiring. I appreciate the story and the way the author told the story - maybe because I always have that "inner child" who never fully grew up or at least, is able to separate the differences between the adulthood and childhood. Like the author, I found children very inspiring, their views and their simple philosophy often times cheer me up, and I love engaging in "conversations" with children maybe more than with adults - way too serious!

I plan to order more copies and give them to my very "serious" adult friends...

Book Review: the secret of life
Summary: 5 Stars

So of course my senior quote was, "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye." Because I knew that in order to create my ideal life, I would have to follow the best advice Saint-Exupery offers us in this book. And I knew that he was sharing the secret of life with us. Following your heart, following the path that you know is right for your soul, is the way to achieve inner peace. Your heart always shows you the right way. Especially when you are lost.

The journey of The Little Prince reminds us that change is inevitable and necessary for our lives to evolve into the lives we want to live. The lamplighter reminded me that it's so important to fully experience every moment of life and appreciate everything we have. Because it all can change in an instant. The fox wants to show us why true love means never having to give up your freedom. And then there's the rose... Each character teaches us incredible lessons about love, friendship, strength, and altruism. All of which are important when you're traveling along the path to self-actualization.

There is no such thing as being too old to read this book. I recommend it to everyone who wants to be the best human being they can be.

Book Review: an amazing and lucky realization
Summary: 5 Stars

I have just finished this book (not an hard stuff) and I came here to see some reviews, but with my disappoint I wasn't able to find one really interesting or close to my impressions.
Maybe is not useless to say that is not a child book, but one for the child we were. I saw in many newsgroup that this is considered by many peoples one of the most important and formative book ever read, together with books like Hermann Hesse's Demian or Dostoevsky's Idiot.

The great of this book is its great emotional impact (tears flowed on my face) that permit to remove your adult shelter, and to taste the simply warm pleasure of beauty and grace. I love this book for the way I felt reading it : I felt first of all human, a living person, without protection, and ready to be exposed to life, in good and in evil, like a child.

This book is not amazing for the "insightful" messages we should analyse after read it, I didn't. I don't want to analyse, divide, decompose or try to understand in a rational way (remember from what the word "RATIOnal" come) what that is a message for the heart : try an olistic approach instead.
Enjoy the calm beauty of what is nice and lightning for itself.

Book Review: THE LITTLE PRINCE
Summary: 5 Stars

This remarkable, little book is an excellent springboard for discussion (parent-child, teacher-student, adult-adult) about both metaphors (which is how I will use it in my 8th-grade classroom) and philosophy (where it is that I hope my students discover the focus of life, and perhaps the pitfalls of becoming, GASP!, a "grown-up").

I fear that too many readers (especially those without their own children) assume by the cover and its placement in the "Children's Section" of bookstores and libraries, that this is a "kids'" book. In reality, this is an intensely mature book that is clearly written for adults as a mid-life check (or for any age, actually) on philosophical attitudes of Love, Possession, Priorities, Relationships, Modernization, and Nature.

Though VERY short, the approach in THE LITTLE PRINCE to "what is really important in life" should not be taken lightly, frivolously, or quickly. Its commentary on "Self" is to be carefully considered, weighed in the mind, fermented for days following. There is also an undeniable universality to the messages within. Written in French in 1943, this little read will no doubt remain a timeless classic forever.

Book Review: What is important in your life?
Summary: 5 Stars

The first time I read this book was in secondary school. At that time, it was just a story to me. It was about the journey of a little prince from planet to planet. A few years later, I read this book again. The feeling is totally different. It is not simply a story. It can make me be aware of the baobabs in the adult world, the world I begin to go into. It also reminds me of what is important in my life.

Adults, in general, are superficial. They only know to work, work and work. They would like to do what other people do. And they are indulged in command and obey without asking why, just like the kings, conceited men, drunkards, businessmen, lamplighters and geographers. Rarely do they think about the meaning of their life. Why are adults occupied by baobabs? Why can't they find what are important in their life?

How about you? Do you find what is important in your life? The little prince has already found - Love with the rose and friendship with the pilot and fox. Don't be occupied by baobabs. "One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes" Then can you find what is important in your life.
