Book Reviews of The Little PrinceBook Review: My favorite book. Summary: 5 Stars
There is too much pressure in the world today to grow up and become a person "of consequence"-- without regard for what is lost in the process. "The Little Prince" is a wonderful and timeless reminder of how absurd this notion is. It is enjoyable for both children and adults-- not too difficult for the younger crowd, not too banal for the older, and a lot of magic that anyone with an open heart can appreciate. It is a story all about the creation and flowering of friendship (quite literally), of learning to love, and learning to say goodbye. And the realization that what is important isn't the facade of success that we are so often told we should pursue, but rather what is in the heart. To give it the credit it deserves, I would be forced to quote the book in full..
Book Review: Five times five times five 5 Stars
What can possibly be said about this book which does it justice? I have read it only two or three times over the last ten years or so, but I feel as though I can turn to any page of it in my mind because it is one of the most memorable books ever written, and also one of the most poignant. I am pleased to see that this book means as much to so many others as it does to me. While many of the readers mention that it is full of philosophical riches, I would like to point out that along with these insights, the simple drawings are almost as touching when coupled with the story. This work is pure artistic refinement, and a bible for the lost years we all have stored up inside ourselves. To read it once is to read it a thousand times!
Book Review: To tame is to establish ties Summary: 5 Stars
Life's secrets are revealed to us by this book. Each time you read it, you will find yourself wonder how come last time you didn't see this new secret. But then of course, just as the little prince learned from the fox, "what is essential is invisible to the eye." So if you want to learn the secrets, you have to learn it from your heart and that, is harder than seeing the shell with your eyes. What I find most helpful to me as a psychotherapist is the friendship between the fox and the little prince. I highly recommend this book to people in the mental health profession, among all others. "To tame is to establish ties," and that teaches us one more thing about the therapeutic relationship.
Book Review: Just an answer for some reviews Summary: 5 Stars
I would like to join everyone who mentioned this book as their favorite, and I may answer some question. Those who asked a question like "When he entered Earth, how come he didn't burn in the atmosphere?" probably never heard the word "literature". I really feel sorry for them. Novels of this genre are rarely based on the laws of phisics and other nature sciences. "How could Dante meet Vergilius, who actually died ages before Dante was born?": the same stupid question never asked. We are talking about literature and philosophy. If it's too hard to understand to someone, he misses a lot of great work of world literature. Sorry about the bad English.
Book Review: Little Prince named book of the century! Summary: 5 Stars
The Little Prince was named the book of the century in France today, December 21, 1999. The Old Man and the Sea came in second. I must agree with the French since The Little Prince helped me find my husband 30 years ago when it was my official "interview" book. For almost 25 years, I read The Little Prince aloud to my high school students each spring. There was never a dry eye in the house when I finished. A student made me a wooden "boa constrictor swallowing the elephant from the outside" which I still proudly display in my office. Great for all ages, all philosophers. Perfect for those Harry Potter, Wind in the Willows, and Hobbit fans.
