Book Reviews of The Last Full MeasureBook Review: Fills his father's shoes Summary: 5 Stars
Of course Jeff Shaara has big shoes to fill and I am sure is often judged on is father's success, but he would definitely make his father proud with this book. You can feel the war and get a deeper understanding of the people who took part in it. Rather than just names in a history book, you feel like you know them.
For similar historical fiction, but with a dash of romance, I would recommend Shades of Gray: A Novel of the Civil War in Virginia.
Book Review: Wonderful historical fiction! Summary: 5 Stars
It's hard to classify this as fiction when the research is so accurate and the "characters" so true to life. Shaara gives a balanced view of the war, the men who fought it, and the reasons why they did while creating a scene so real the reader feels a part of the action. Fans of Shaara's father will find it hard to tell the difference between father and son's writing!
Book Review: Awesome Book Summary: 5 Stars
Jeff Shaara is truly a literary master. On the same level as "The Killer Angels", "The Last Full Measure" is the story of the Civil War from the end of Gettysburg to Lee's surrender to Grant at the Appotomax Courthouse. This book is hands down a masterpiece that everyone should read. However, before reading this you should read "The Killer Angels".
Book Review: Inexplicably made this a private review in 5 Stars
...and wanted to "fix" that.
The original - A master work by the son of a master writer. Jeff Shaara could easily be an unknown, non-writer. We need to count our blessings as readers of historical fiction that he was convinced to pick up his father's work & continue.
Book Review: Great book! Summary: 5 Stars
Jeff Shaara does it over and over again. I cant tell you how much I enjoyed this book. I have read all his books on the Revolutionary War and the Civil War and I feel like I was actually there! He is certainly a great writer and I would recommend his books to everyone.
