Book Reviews of The Judas Strain: A Sigma Force Novel

Book Review: Non-stop action!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have immensely enjoyed all James Rollins action adventure books. The Judas Strain is another excellent adventure that I highly recommend you read it. If you like James Bond action and Indiana Jones adventure, you will enjoy The Judas Strain, as well as any James Rollins book. A James Rollins adventure is fast-paced with the action starting on the very first page and consistently continues throughout each book. The author combines 90% fact with imaginative 10% fiction creating an atmosphere of plausible mystery and suspense. All the main characters are well developed while in action. They are intelligent, resourceful, highly skilled and compassionate (at least the "good guys" are). Their narrow escapes from the many perilous situations are surprising, but credible. Plots take the reader all over the world, from beautiful historic sites to the darkest subterranean caverns, to reveal pieces of the intriguing yet unsolved puzzle and many side, but pertinent, mysteries. All books complete in a cataclysmic, action packed event, where the "good guys" barely, but credibly, escape with their lives. During the event, all mysteries are resolved and easily understood, allowing each book to stand on it own. I keep track and rate all the books I read on a scale from 1 to 10. For the nine James Rollins books I've read, the average is 9.3 and that's only because one of his first books rated 7. The last three books he's produced, which include The Judas Strain, I've rated 10! His books are so good, I've started rereading them, starting with the first one I read (and got hooked on), Ice Hunt.

Dr. Lisa Cummings and Monk Kokkalis of the secretive US government Sigma force are sent to investigate the mysterious death of marine life off an island in the Indian Ocean. They cover as WHO team members and the services of a "donated" luxury cruise ship is used as their center of operation. The cruise ship is commandeered by Sigma's nemesis Guild operatives, who want to use the disease as a bio-weapon, and Lisa is coerced into working for them to find the source and cure. At the same time, ex-Guild operative, perhaps turned good, Seichan crashes her motorcycle into Sigma's commander Gray Pierce's fourth of July party. Seichan has found a link of the deadly disease to Marco Polo's return trip to Venice from China in 1293 and wants Gray's help with the investigation. But the Guild is hot on Seichan's trail and captures her, Gray and Gray's parents, forcing her and Gray into helping the Guild follow this historic trail to the source and cure of the pestilence. The fast-paced action is non-stop and the perilous situations are numerous as Sigma tries to uncover the secrets of the past, but keep it out of the Guild's possession.

Summary of The Judas Strain: A Sigma Force Novel

Buried deep within a jungle, ancient ruins conceal a deadly secret...Buried in a tomb in Venice, a great explorer hides a truth that could shatter history...Buried in our own genetic code, a mystery like no other...But nothing stays buried forever-and it will be up to Sigma Force to face what will be unearthed: a plague beyond any cure, a scourge that turns all of Nature against mankind. From the high seas of the Indian Ocean to the dark jungles of Southeast Asia, from the canals of Venice to the crypts of ancient kings, Sigma Force must piece together a mystery that, unless solved, will end all life on our planet. But even this challenge may prove too large for Sigma Force alone. With a worldwide pandemic growing, Painter Crowe and Commander Gray Pierce turn to their deadliest adversaries for help, teaming up with a diabolical foe who thwarted them in the past. But can the enemy be trusted even now? Or will they prove to be another Judas?
