This book starts out simply, goes on with advice, help, and alot of songs to try. It then continues with more advanced techniques. It is written in a relaxed style and doesn't require that the reader have a degree in music to understand it, yet has enough information in it to help a student of the banjo for many years. All you need besides this book is a banjo (and some strings from time to time).Book Review: Great book for all banjo players

I first discovered Patrick Costello on You-Tube, have become an avid follower of his, and Dear Old Dad's, online video tutorials. There is a CD that is also available with this book, I highly recommend the CD too [...].
Great book, lots of good information/advice/stories/etc. Not your typical instructional book, much better and much more useful.

As a beginner who has read through many different resources trying to find something that makes sense, it's my opinion that this book contains the best advice and instruction on learning to play the banjo. In addition to the solid musical instruction, it contains some incredibly entertaining stories and a great philosophy about music and life.Book Review: Excellent Instructional Book

I've been playing the banjo for app. 3.5 years. I have purchased many different instuctional books and have found none as helpful or with the quality of material as this book. I purchased this book as a present for my father who is learning the banjo and has been for quite a while. He has tried several books and tells me that this is the best by far. He advised me the book is set out in a way which is easy to follow and informative.
