Book Reviews of The Horus Heresy: Collected Visions

Book Review: Worth every dollar and then some.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is primarily an art book that has text sections spread around amongst the beautiful illustrations. You will get all types of artwork both conceptual and finished works that tell the story at the root of the Warhammer 40k universe. This book is put together very well, from binding to page weight and covering. The publishers put "presentation" at the top of their to-do list and met the goal extremely well.

The sheer amount of artwork is staggering, both in detail and scope. Any 40k fan will recognize some of the artwork but you would be hard pressed to have seen everything this contains before.

It is, I hope, obviously of no game value and is purely an piece of "fluff" that may provide some color schemes for army painting but likely will just be something to sit and stare at. I'd say this would make an excellent coffee table book, but I suspect any guest who thumbs through it would begin to have doubts about your relative sanity. It wouldn't raise eyebrows as much as the Liber Chaotica book though.

So, in short, it is big, beautiful and probably would stop handgun caliber bullets in a pinch so it is truly multifunctional art worthy of the Empire of Man.

Book Review: Excelent collection!
Summary: 5 Stars

When the Horus Heresy picture books came out about five years ago as four seperate books I was tempted to get them at the time for picture reference on space marine model conversions. At the time I decided not to buy them and pretty much forgot they even existed. When Black Library Publishing started putting the Horus Heresy novels I got interested again. The seperate book were long since been out of print and I found the hardpack Collected Visions on Amazon pretty much by accident.

The Collected Visions itself as the name suggests combines the four originally seperately released books to one book. The hardpack book has a strong binding and is filled with tons of pictures by various artists setting a nice atmosphere of the dark days of the Horus Heresy. It also tells the main events of the Horus Heresy written by Alan Merrett. The man behind much of the Warhammer 40000 setting development over the years.

I'd suggest this book to any fan of the setting and even to someone even remotely interested on Warhammer 40000 universe. Also I'd get this while you can as the Collected Visions will probably be soon out of print too. And this book for thirty dollars is a real bargain!

Book Review: Excellent book!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is the collection of four now hard to find art and background books detailing the Horus Heresy based in the Warhammer 40,0000 gaming universe. Like the Art of Warhammer 40,000 this book is also a very nice hardcover book literally packed with hundreds and hundreds of pieces of artwork and background text detailing all the intricacies of the Horus Heresy. Each page is magnificent glossy paper and overall the entire book is just top notch quality. It weighs in with over 400 pages, which is just massive. It also contains an exclusive short story penned by Graham McNeill called "The Kaban Project" which details some of the goings on with Mars and the Adeptus Mechanicus just before the turn of the Horus Heresy. It is one of the best shorts I have read in the 40k universe and was a surprise addition while reading through this book. I would recommend this book to any 40k fan that loves the fluff. You simply cannot be let down with this, the quality of this book is simply amazing.

Book Review: Beautiful Illustration book to go with any 40K collection
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been a Warhammer 40k fan for just over a year now. I started reading the Horus Heresy a couple of months ago, and haven't been able to stop. This book is the perfect addition to the collection. It adds visual aid to most of the characters from the series. The drawings/ paintings are beautiful. I especially like the depiction of the primarchs from each legion. This is a large hard bound book. The cover is really cool looking (in my opinion).

Pros: Beautiful illustrations from the 40K Imperium universe. Also adds a brief overview of the whole story between Horus, and the Emperor. Bought thru Amazon for quite a bit less than the cover price.

Cons: none that I could find, maybe the fact that it is so large, but not a problem for any Warhammer fan, who love the game and story as I do.

Book Review: A steal at twice the price.
Summary: 5 Stars

I'd seen the individual books that comprise this set come out over the years and regretted not picking them up. Once I saw this one on Amazon for about 30% off, I jumped. It's everything a fan-boy could dream of. If you're thinking of doing a pre-heresy army or just want the background on a current marine chapter this is the book to buy. Not only is it artwork, but it's also history of the game. It explains a lot of things going on in the current age of the Imperium. By all means, if you're reading the Horus Heresy novels, pick this up. It actually puts faces to many of the named characters.

Worth every penny.
