Book Reviews of The HobbitBook Review: My Review Summary: 5 Stars
Some May have wanted a facimile of the first edition that was changed in later years to reflect the lord of the rings like printing the original riddles in the dark and so on.
This has the same forward from the 1987 gold anniversary 50th edition. It is all intents and purposed the same as the 2004 Harper Collins, minus the paper quality and slipcase. The new corrections made i cannot place.
The only difference really is the facimile dustjacket of what tolkien would have wanted for the first edition.
The size of the illustrations inside and so on.
The color tinted pages that i think are included for the first time in America. Not sure if this edition has the moon rune that appears when the map is put to light like the british edition.
Book Review: A wonderful fantasy adventure Summary: 5 Stars
The Hobbit is a wonderful story of adventure for all ages. I read this book for the first time over 20 years ago in 7th grade. The danger and ups-and-downs that Mr. Baggins and his companions go through (i.e. the plot) are as fun as ever. And, the writing, having read it recently with more of an eye for style, is incredible. The story is short, sweet, simple. And so too is the prose. With the exception of Bilbo, Tolkein's characters are subtle and straightforward. The narrative shows brilliant skill in terms of pace, setting, and action. The writing is not embellished (or bogged down) with excruciating detail, back story, or subplots. The Hobbit is a children's book, and a superbly written one at that. One that makes you want to pick up and go find adventure over the edge of the Wild.
Book Review: The Hobbit -- 70th Anniversary Summary: 5 Stars
I've been a huge Tolkien fan since I was a kid, and have collected a tremendous amount of various editions of his books in various forms over the years, so I figured I'd heard it all and seen it all. I will admit that I have only read the introduction and skimmed the book so far, but what I have seen and read opens a whole new chapter in my understanding of this book.
This book is printed for the 70th anniversary of The Hobbit's original release, and includes a brief introduction by Tolkien's son Christopher. The text also has been updated to account for various corrections through the years from Tolkien and his publishers. What I liked best about this edition is it includes drawings and color illustrations by the man himself, J. R. R. Tolkien.
Book Review: Possibly the most enjoyable book ever written. Summary: 5 Stars
Let me just start by saying that I love, and have always since the first time I read it, loved this book. No one should go through life without at least giving this book a shot.
In this novel J.R.R. Tolkien pens the archetypal adventure for the modern world, complete with memorable characters, a rich world, and a good amount of danger. The story, although sometimes touted as a book for young people, is perfectly acceptable for adults as well. Regardless of age, this is one of the few reads which will truly engross you from the first page to the last.
Do yourself a favor: buy your kid a copy. Buy yourself a copy. This is a book every amateur adventurer should read at least once.
Book Review: This is an amazing book Summary: 5 Stars
The Hobbit by Tolkien is most definitely one of the best books ever. My Dad first read it to me when I was probably only 7, and I know I will still love it when I'm 100.
The edition itself is amazing. The illustrations are by Tolkien, as they should be. The best illustrations in any book are either by the author or by someone the author personally chooses, because the reader can be sure that everything is illustrated as the author imagined it. Many times when an author illustrates his own book, the art is not the best quality, but not in this case. Tolkien was a great and creative artist in addition to being one of the best authors of all time.
