Book Review: One of the greatest stories ever written

What can I say really? Tolkiens Hobbit/LOTR trilogy, like Jack Londons Call of the Wild were books that I read for the first time at a very young age and struck a deep cord inside of me. I have since re-read them several times over the years and they still reasonate deeply.
To be more Hobbit specific its the prelude to the LOTR trilogy. Its one of the greatest stories ever written. You could say its not as deep or multilayered as the LOTR but that doesn't make it an inferior story.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is a beautifully written and a very original story. It is a great adventure book for all ages. The Hobbit is a timeless masterpiece, and it will thrill readers for years to come. The main character, Mr. Bilbo Baggins, is a quirky little hobbit on a rather remarkable quest. He takes the reader over mountains, across rivers, and through battles. This book is nonstop excitement from start to finish. Bilbo is hysterical. Gandalf charms. The writing shines. If there were 6 stars I'd give it 7. That said, my 11 year-old daughter couldn't get into it. I'm not so sure the 4-8 year-old crowd (stated as the suggested audience on Amazon) is quite ready for this masterpiece; I'd say 10-14, or 10-110 rather. I loved the narrator and Tolkiens's vivid imagination. Things like Bilbo saying, "...and I missed second breakfast." Oh that delicious world of hobbits! Incredible. Tolkien is the true father of the Fantasy genre. The Hobbit is an amazing book for anyone over the age of 11. I first read it when I was 11 or 12 years old and still find new things to like about it now that I'm 41. From story to plot to character development Tolkien truly made his world come alive.
Best Fantasy series I have ever read, to this day. All 4 books are phenomenal... as are his other works, especially the Silmarillion.

This book is fantastic. I have to read it at least once a year. It is very entertaining, very fun and never gets old. Each time I pick up the book to read it it feels and reads as fresh as it did the first time. Great book for all ages and the best place to start if you are interested in "The Lord of the Rings" or learning more about Middle Earth. I'd recommend this book to everyone and it makes for a wonderful present for any and all occasions.
