Book Reviews of The HobbitBook Review: Must Read Summary: 5 Stars
"The Hobbit" is one extraordinary read of a book. I have to say that this book may be up with some of my favorite books.
I was introduced to this book from my father. I had to pick a book for my 10th grade reading project, and my dad brought up "The Hobbit". He said that when he was growing up, "The Hobbit" was one of his favorite books, so I decided to give it a try. It was worth it.
What I truly like about the book is that there is almost always something going on. You never find yourself bored with it or wishing that the characters would be more exciting. I could not find a truly dull moment in the book. I love Bilbo's evolution as a character throughout the story. I don't think that I found anything that I didn't like about this book.
If I had to recommend this book to someone, it would be to anyone who enjoys a true adventure. There are times in the book that you get sucked into the adventure and don't want to put the book down. Even if you're a person that usually gets bored with adventure stories, I can promise you that won't with "The Hobbit". It is a must-read for any fantasy/adventure lover.
Book Review: A Fair tale........ Summary: 5 Stars
If you have read the lord of the rings and been wondering how the hobbit came across the ring, then here is your book.
when I reached a couple chapters I asked myself the question"hey,why are I reading this,I am a sci-horror-fantasy reader,not fairy tale"..and I decided to stop reading.
I must admit, the story line is good and wonderful. But not for horror readers.
The story line is simple:It tells how the hobbit,Bilbo Baggins came across the Ring, after being called by Gandalf(the wizard) and a bunch of homeless dwarfs. It shows the obstacles they encounter on their journey and the challenges they face.Along with the knowledge they gain. Also there is a very scary dragon in this story.
The plot is simple and the book is short.
It contains everything children would look for in a fairy tale book:Elves, hobbits, ghouls,Wizards, trolls and lots more.
So,despite the fact that I didn't like this book I must recommend it to you,if you are a fantasy/fairy tale reader.
Book Review: Simply a Wonderful Story Summary: 5 Stars
The Hobbit is a prelude to the epic The Lord of the Rings, but it still stands quite well on its own. This story tells of the finding of the Ring of Power, though at the time it seems a mere piece of luck and comes in quite handy for Bilbo during his adventure. More important to this story is the journey of Bilbo and the dwarves toward their ancient home, the Lonely Mountain, where Smaug the dragon sits atop their hoard of treasure. Always, the goal of reaching the mountain and reclaiming the gold (somehow) is foremost in their minds, even though they become sidetracked several times along the way. This is a perfect adventure story, ideal for reading to children or for anyone of any age. Bilbo, a seemingly insignificant person of a seemingly insignificant race of people, is a wonderful hero, as he finds that he possesses more courage and wits than he ever imagined. This is one of those books that everyone should read, if not for its relevance to the Middle-earth saga, but also because it's simply a wonderful story.
Book Review: The Beginning of Middle Earth Summary: 5 Stars
It's a real shame that the movie version of this book didn't come out before The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. People would have had a better idea of who Bilbo was. The worst part about the movies was they made him look like a silly little old man. But this is a classic story of a rather ordinary little creature reaching out to be extraordinary when the situation required it. It is a mistake to think of this as a story about a small group of thirteen dwarves, a wizard, and a hobbit out to fight a dragon merely to win back a treasure. This group is out to win back a lost kingdom. And it must be pointed that an elf kingdom and a kingdom of humans suffered from the fall of the dwarf kingdom as well. So it shouldn't be a surprise when a war breaks out because other people want a share of the treasure. This a bit lighter in tone than The Lord of the Rings, but it came twenty years earlier, and a lot happened to Tolkien in that time, including World War II. But this is a most excellent story about a most excellent Hobbit
Book Review: The Hobbit, a great book by a great author Summary: 5 Stars
I found this book quite by accident, while being at the library looking for something completely different. Having heard of this book before, I read a few pages, and I started to get hooked. The book is about a little hobbit known as Bilbo Baggins and it follows his adventures around Tolkien's magical world. Gandalf and some dwarves head out to fight goblins, trolls, spiders, and many other creatures, all for a chance at untold riches. However the treasure is guarded by a cruel dragon known as Smaug. I enjoy Tolkien's writing style and I especially love his humor. This is probably one of the finest books he has written. It is a shame how you can hear the cash register ring as every subsequent book was written. The Hobbit is not the easiest read however, and Tolkien's colorful use of words can be hard to follow at times. I would recommend this book to anyone who already enjoys Tolkien's works and to any fantasy lover. This book easily makes the 5 out of 5 mark for me.
