Book Reviews of The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching: Transforming Suffering into Peace, Joy, and LiberationBook Review: Great introduction to Buddhism Summary: 5 Stars
I have never been so happy while reading a book. Thich Nhat Hanh is very compassionate and you can feel it through his words. I found myself nodding in agreement and smiling while reading this book. It is written very simply. You don't need a Buddhist background to understand or appreciate this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a brief introduction to Buddhism. It's a book that I will definitely keep in my library. I'm sure that I will read it multiple times or at least read through certain sections for inspiration.
Book Review: I love this book Summary: 5 Stars
I have not even finished reading this book, but I wanted to write a review of it. Personally I find the flowing language very calming, and it helps me to put the ideas I am learning into practice as I am learning them. I have been intersted in Buddhism for several years, but always felt overwhelmed by all the information out there. I finally went to a Buddhist temple in Vancouver and decided that this was something I wanted to delve into more seriously. I think this is a book that I will read over and over again.
Book Review: Incredible Introduction Summary: 5 Stars
If you are new to Buddhism, and want to know "what is this all about?", I can think of no finer book than this. It covers all the basic concepts, in a natural, and intuitive way. It thankfully avoids arguing over sectarian subtleties, and shows patience and care for the reader, assuming that this might be their first book on the subject. It relegates nothing to dogma or belief, instead explaining the plain truth present in the Buddha's teachings, in a way that rings obviously true to human beings in general.
Book Review: Perfect In Depth Intro to Buddhism Summary: 5 Stars
Thich Naht Hanh is such an eloquent writer. This was my first introduction to him as an author. I love this book. It is a staple in my collection of Buddhism texts and I find myself refering to it continuously.
This is an in depth introduction to Buddhism, including The Four Nobel Truths, The Eightfold Path and so much more. It is very in depth, but the writing style makes it so easy to read and absorb.
I recommend this to anyone interested in Buddhism and the ceasation of suffering.
Book Review: Interconnected! Summary: 5 Stars
This book requires the reader to explore the interelatedness of all the Buddhist doctrines. I read this at the same time as Bhante Gunaratana's *Eight Mindful Steps to Happiness* and found that it provided a depth and meaning that Gunaratana's simpler exposition did not. That's not to say that I was not confused at various points! But Thich Nhat Hanh's warmth and loving-kindness reaches right off the page to express the inner meaning of the Buddha's teaching in daily life. Well worth digging into.
