Book Reviews of The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching: Transforming Suffering into Peace, Joy, and LiberationBook Review: Deep, profound teachings and commentary Summary: 5 Stars
For those who think Thay's (Thich Nhat Hanh)teachings are too simple, think again. This shows you the depth and amazing understanding this Zen master has of the Buddha's teachings. I love the way in most of Thay's teachings he can make the profound amazingly simple, easy to understand and practice. This book though is almost like a grad course on Buddhist philosophy/thought/teachings. Amazing and inspiring. For the best read about the Buddha's life check out: Old Path White Clouds: Walking in the Footsteps of the Buddha
Book Review: Thich Nhat Hanh's foundation for exploring Buddhism wisdom Summary: 5 Stars
The value of this book is remarkable - not only for it's extensive coverage of Buddhism Sutra - but even more for it's ordered structure and Visual Figures, displaying a more Western perspective to Buddhism elements. It is without doubt, that this book has been a great value in my Path to learn, enjoy and put Buddhism Wisdom into the practise of daily life. One minor point would be the more complicated writing style - where I would advice the audience to have been introduced to Buddhism prior to start reading "The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching". Nevertheless, well worth a 5-star recommendation.
Book Review: a page turner Summary: 5 Stars
i checked this particular book out at my local library...i read pieces of it on my break at work and i could not put it down! this book really inspired me. hahn has refreshing views that most of us would have never thought about. for instance, how can i look at my suffering and find the cause and reason for it? he teaches that though unpleasant, let us all face it, suffering is part of life and it leads to brighter ways, days, and understanding. tough times do not last for long. learn from suffering...embrace our suffering...then we can understand it and move on.or we will be trapped by it.
Book Review: Simple and deep ... Summary: 5 Stars
Thich Nhat Hanh is one of the great souls of this time. I am not religious but his work, and this book in particular, has brought me real help in how to deal with my life, in simple words with always an underlying tenderness to mankind, or better, to life.
One quotation sums it up for me, who like many non-buddhists, learnt that Buddha's teaching was "all about suffering" and felt a little uneasy with it :
Page 29 :"It is true that the Buddha taught the truth of suffering, but he also taught the truth of dwelling happily in thing as they are. "
Book Review: Thich Nhat Hanh simplifies the Buddha's teachings Summary: 5 Stars
Wonderfully clear explanation of many of Buddha's teachings. I find the ancient Pali translations difficult, while Thich Nhat Hanh explains the practices in a modern, relevant, way. There is an intellectual honesty in TNH's writing, because it is evident he has personally experienced whatever he "preaches".
The Buddha was an eternal optimist, as is Thich Nhat Hanh. Of course, it depends upon concentrated practice to get the benefits of clear thinking and peace within.
Sincerely,
