Book Reviews of The Healthy Slow CookerBook Review: Good cookbook Summary: 4 Stars
I think this book has a lot of quality recipes. I like the unique combinations. Some of the recipes have uncommon ingredients that are difficult for me to find in IA. Most of the recipes require a decent amount of preparation.
Book Review: Ok, not great Summary: 3 Stars
This book is ok, but not great. I like a cookbook with a lot of pictures so I can see what the finished product looks like, but this one has a couple pictures for every 10 (approximately) recipes. Also, many of the recipes require you to cook most of the items in a pot/pan on the stovetop before putting in the slowcooker. I'm sorry, but the main reason most people want to make a slow cooker meal is to eliminate having to cook on the stove! I will say I haven't yet tried any of the recipes in the book, so I cannot attest to the flavor or taste, but I'm actually unmotivated to make any of them in the first place because of the extra steps involved! My search continues for a good, healthy, slow cooker cookbook...
Book Review: Not the best for me... Summary: 3 Stars
The unfortunate thing about this cookbook is that one of the author's goals is to reduce animal protein. There are very few recipes with any sort of meat in them other then fish. When the recipes do call for chicken its always drumsticks - never a low calorie protein.
The cookbook is great if you are looking for a wide variety of non-meat dishes, but this just isn't what I was looking for. I ended up returning this cookbook.
Book Review: may not be what you're looking for Summary: 3 Stars
I was disappointed that it didn't have a wide variety of recipes. They all have a similar flair to them, and all require more prep time than I really wanted for crock pot cooking! In the end, I say forget your pressure cooker and check out The Best of Cooking Light. These are simple, easy to prepare recipes, wide variety, and everything has been excellent so far. Anyway, good luck!
Book Review: OK, but too much work Summary: 3 Stars
The recipes aren't bad, especially health wise, but there's a LOT of prep...including sauteeing food before putting it in the crock pot. A good buy if you have time, but if you're looking for something that you expect from a crockpot (throw it all in and leave!), this one may not be right for you.
