Book Review: Comprehensive overview of armed defense

This paperback book is a comprehensive overview of handguns. From the background and history of handguns, as well as the progression over the past few decades, the handgun has been a very good tool for protection. The author illustrates the important distinction between 2 major classes of handguns: Revolvers and Semiautomatic pistols. Discussing the Pros and Cons, as well as the method of choosing the appropriate weapon is covered. Methods of concealed carry, firing the weapon, practice and preparation for self defense are detailed. Practical techniques for combat simulation and preparation for real life experiences, and concealed carry issues make this a book essential for any shooter's book collection. Throughout the book, the emphasis is on safety and proper preparation.
Ammunition and recommended loads are covered. Myths are dispelled through this author's bountiful knowledge in real life and practical experience.
The language is easy to understand and photographs are plentiful. The photographs are black and white, but they are clear and get the necessary teaching points across.
For anyone (military, law enforcement or civilian) considering buying and using a handgun, citizens taking advantage of their local Open Carry statutes, or those interested in acquiring a Concealed Carry Permit will benefit.
I highly recommend that you consider this purchase for any gun owner.
Book Review: Great book for begginers and experiance shooters alike

This book will allow you to look at what is available in the current field of combat handguns. The book covers pistols, revolvers, larger frame.service size handguns, compacts, subcompacts, and little "mouse" guns. Also covered is the most popular self defense calibers and suggestions on the best loads for your favorite caliber. Also covered, as a primer really, how to carry your weapon and some product suggestions. There is also a section introing the reader to drawing your weapon and shooting your weapon. Some shooting sports is also covered.
Mr Ayoob has done a great job of putting together a complete book on the top choices in handgun seceltion, caliber choice, and load offerings from his own persoanl experiance and from other well know professionals in the shooting/defense field. There is $400 to $100 handguns in here, something for everyone's budget. The book is ment to be a primer for the novice, but experiance shooters can learn also.
Alot of the chapters are sometimes a "refresher" from Mr Ayoob's other books on shooting and self defense. I've read all of his books and I haven't found a bad one yet. The beginner is well advised to search out his other books as well.
Book Review: Everyone needs this book!

This is the best book I have found that completely covers the topic of self-defense with a handgun. Even if a person knows absolutely nothing about the topic this book will help with every step along the way. Every person who is legally elligible to possess a handgun should read this book and make its message an important part of life. Kids should read it in school and learn this stuff early so they are less likely to be victims of violent crime. Get this book and live the life of self-defense guaranteed by our constitutional liberties. Heck, get two and give one as a gift like I did. In a gunfight remember to have a gun. If you carry or keep a .38 special revolver this book suggests the "FBI Load" as the best ammo for self-defense, and I agree. I even handload my own "FBI Load" ammo since it is sometimes hard to find. Read the book to see why.Book Review: Massad Ayoob Does It Again

I have read nearly all Massad Ayoob's books and many of his articles. When I got into guns recently, in particular handguns, I ran across his writings. They changed my life. Not only is he an authority on self defense with and without handguns, his analyses of guns and manufacturers of guns are superb. Anyone looking to learn about modern handgunnery ought to turn to Mas Ayoob's writings. His style is concise yet exploratory; his coverage is complete; his demonstrations and illustrations and/or photos are informative; and his message is clear: handgunnery is a serious subject, one that can take many hours of anyone's time, and it should be analyzed carefully along the way. And, finally, Gun Digest is an authority as well, so this combination of publisher and author is one with which you cannot go wrong.Book Review: Mas Ayoob is THE expert!

This book is a must read for anyone that wants to use a handgun for personal protection, or just become a better shooter. The first time I hit the range after reading this book and implementing Ayoob's techniques, I shot 50% better than I ever had before. My wife, who never had hit paper at 25 yds., was able to shoot 4inch groups consistently after applying what Ayoob teaches. Thanks Mas!!
