Book Reviews of The Great Santini: A NovelBook Review: Over the Top Summary: 2 Stars
A rare instance when the movie is more enjoyable than the book. The constant sibling rivalry was humorous until around page 75, then it became too much to bear. You won't miss anything by skipping the back and forth teen dialogue. Can't imagine that the conversations as written hadn't already occurred several times in their past. Thought the old saying, "and so's your old man" would have been better. Same for Santini and the constant barrage of over the top manliness. Sophomoric at best. See the movie and forget the book.
