Book Reviews of The Grapes Of MathBook Review: Great for upper elementary - beginner middle school Summary: 4 Stars
This book is "cute". It forces students to look at arrays of objects and find shortcuts for finding totals. I teach in the middle school grades and have this on my bookshelf for kids looking for something to read during a study hall. Might be a nice supplement to an elementary math program. My two year old son really liked the poems (of course couldn't do the math) and the pictures were really interesting for him to look at.
Book Review: Cute picture riddles Summary: 4 Stars
This book was a hit with my "real life math" students. The pictures and riddles are very simple, once you get them. A lot of good math skills are involved, like finding shortcuts and estimating. We are going to use the book to help teach a 5th grade math class estimating. Great color and graphics make the book fun to use.
Book Review: Grapes of Math in the Classroom Summary: 4 Stars
Although the book is very elementary,as a middle school teacher I have used it with my ESL students that have only been in the US for just 15 months. A few of these students have never had any formal education so their skills are still on a very low level. They have enjoyed the book and done well.
Book Review: Good book for younger crowd Summary: 4 Stars
Maybe my kids are a little advanced in math but I'd say this should be more of a 7-10 year old book. Don't get me wrong it's still good but it should be targeted at a slightly younger audience.
Book Review: actually more of a booket than a book Summary: 2 Stars
Besides being such a small book my 8 year old daughter was insulted and thought I had ordered a "baby book" for her. We home school so I am not sure when this would match public school grades but I would guess this booklet is better for a 4-6 or maybe a 7 year old.
