Book Reviews of The Goodnight Train

Book Review: Quickly my sons favorite book
Summary: 5 Stars

Zoom down a train track headed for Dreamland with this beautifully illustrated book. This quickly became my sons favorite book (and he has many). From the fun rhyming verses to the gorgeous pictures this book has it all. My son is 2 and going through a train phase so this book is the perfect thing to send him off to Dreamland. We blow our train whistle and cuddle on the bed. He's already memorized sentences from the book and it's the first book he actually has handed to me and insists I read. This book would be perfect for any child. It makes the whole bedtime ritual very fun and my son just knows it's time for bed when we're done. The illustrations are so vivid and detailed that they are great for teaching what certain objects are. I recommend this for all parents searching for that perfect bedtime book.

Book Review: A Perfect Bedtime Book for Train Lovers
Summary: 5 Stars

The Goodnight Train is a lovely bedtime story that takes the reader from bathtime to bedtime aboard the Goodnight Train. Its gentle rhyming text and train sounds make it a fun book to read: "Wheels are turning. Smoke drifts high, painting clouds up in the sky. Huff-a-puff-a! Huff-a-puff-a Chooooo! Chooooo!" The whimsical details in the illustrations also make this book engaging for preschoolers and kindergarteners.

My four-year-old son, who loves trains, has decided that this is one of his favorite bedtime stories. And since I like it too, I don't mind reading it three or four times a night!

Book Review: Great Bedtime Read
Summary: 5 Stars

Our 2 1/2 year old loves this book. For the past month she has wanted this book read at least twice a day. This rhyming story and its illustrations are great. Going along with the main story, the illustrations also have many side details so every time we read the pages, there is something new to point out to her (or for her to ask about); the skunk getting his own bath, a man snoring, sheep with slippers etc. There are a couple pages with "sweet treats" shown; one has billowing smoke cloud of an ice cream cone and the other one of a lollipop. These are not things we want our daughter having yet, so we really take notice when we find the in books - there is no mention of them in the words and our daughter has not asked about them yet.

Book Review: Whew! This story pulled us out of a 30-day potty book slump!
Summary: 5 Stars

The artwork in this book is fanciful and fabulous, instantly capturing the attention 22 month old. The story is a ditty of a rhyme that's fun to embellish with parental flare. It's such a relief, since our last month has been sidetracked by the endless rotation of three potty books.

There are bath tubs and giant toothbrushes, teddy bears and sheep to count, of course a train and -- the best part -- wheels on the bed. Oh what a joy it was to find that there are wheels on our little guy's bed, as well (and if there weren't, this would be a great excuse to add some).

An excellent book to nod off to. An apparently, an excellent book to wake up with, as well (so I'm told).

Book Review: Captivating book
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this book for my son because of his fascination with trains. Not only is this book a must for train lovers, but also for any child who needs to get settled down with reading before bed. My son always seems to chose The Goodnight Train for last. I'm sure there is a reason for that. This book is very soothing and has minimal stimulation, which is perfect for getting my son to calm down for bed. The artwork is beautiful, and both child and parent can appreciate it. The whimsical rhyming feels like a lullaby, and helps to set the bedtime tone as well. I would consider this to be one of the most refreshing and comforting books since Goodnight Moon.
