Book Reviews of The Good Thief

Book Review: One of the best books I've read this year
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
After picking it out on a whim, I was happily surprised by how enjoyable this book was. It was like a modern-day Oliver Twist, without all the boring parts and older English. Tinti put together a fascinating story that comments on chance, interconnectedness, and various roles each of the characters has in life.

Every chapter I was caught off-guard by either a snickeringly funny happenstance or utterance by a character, or by an seemingly bizarre event that eventually is shown to be not so bizarre after all. I'm hoping to read more by Hannah Tinti!

Book Review: A wonderful book
Summary: 5 Stars

The Good Thief is a wonderful, highly readable book about (with a strong tip of the hat to Dickens)a young orphan in New England in the 1800's. He is adopted by a thief, grifter, and learns the trade, garnering sympathy because of a missing hand.

Ren longs to know about his family, however, and slowly, along with Ren, we learn the truth of his history. And what a great read getting to the truth! The characters are wonderful: the Franciscan brothers who take care of the orphans, the grifter who adopts Ren, the grifter's partner, and a wonderful assortment of characters. This book includes resurrection men, giants, midgets, kind hearted landladies, thwarted true love, etc.

I highly recommend this marvelous book to anyone who enjoys a good old fashioned, solid book.

Book Review: The Cemetery Club
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I devoured this novel! It is a wonderful new addition to my personal canon of New England favorites that also includes The Cider House Rules. It begins with some of the same ominous shadows that invade the opening pages of A Reliable Wife, but the storytelling here is more straightforward and old-fashioned. It contains many of the pleasures of a Victorian novel, but told more briskly.

Book Review: An outstanding piece of Literature.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This was a brilliant work. Very well executed. Complex characters you can empathize with. Masterful plot twists. Hannah Tinti manages to outDickens Dickens with The Good Thief, and I am in awe of her writing abilities. I'm recommending this to anyone who appreciates dark Lit. Outstanding.

Book Review: Hats off...
Summary: 5 Stars

Good stuff!!

I really enjoyed this tale by Hannah Tinti!

Amazingly creative and vivid characters throughout the book, definitely a page turner right up until the end of the book.

A one handed orphan, a dwarf, a murderous giant, twin brothers, the Mousetrap girls, the Hatboys and many other one of a kind characters....

The ending could have gone alot of different ways, I enjoyed the one she chose.

Fun read, highly recommended!
