Book Review: Don't head to the Islands to golf without this book

My husband and I are golf fanatics - well, he is a REAL golfer, I'm more in the "wishing and hoping" category - but we both love the game and play it often - everywhere we go. We live on a golf course, have our own cart (mostly for partying), have golfers for friends, travel on golf holidays, ... you get the idea - we epitomize the name of this book. We even crammed our clubs into our travel van on our year long trip around the US (www.roadtripdream.com).
We hadn't really looked too much at the book prior to heading to Kauai for the month of March (our tans may actually be RUST, we're not sure...), but we quickly got into using this very handy and well laid out guide. We had been to Kauai before as we have a child and grandchild there, but hadn't yet played every course. We can now proudly say that we have accomplished that goal thanks to this guide.
We loved the course descriptions, the "golf buddy" way of describing the course and the holes, the tips on the 19th hole, the maps and directions, and the pictures are wonderfully done. The way the book is laid out makes it easy to read and inviting. My only suggestion would be to put a few sentences in about the courses for gals - some provide a better layout for us not-so-long hitters than others. Clearing huge canyons is not our strong suit.
We recommend the funky little Kukuiolono golf course on Kauai for the most authentic golf experience; Wailua on Kauai and Waikoloa Village (Big Island) as the best values; and of course, Mauna Kea (Big Island) as the ultimate all around, golf experience. If you can get close to some military folks, don't miss the military courses on O'ahu.
Bryan should also consider using his website (www.fanaticguides.com) to provide updates on courses - I see he just announced the reopening of Mauna Kea - one of our favorite courses in the islands - maybe even the US. We found that the Princeville Makai courses - all 3 of them - were under renovation - a big bummer since we were staying in Princeville - but his descriptions in the book were just as we remembered them. Wished we had known...
We've also played on O'ahu and the Big Island and find his assessments to be right on - we hope that you will enjoy his comments and the courses as much as we have. Just don't leave home without this excellent quality guide.
