Book Reviews of The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement

Book Review: Great Book!
Summary: 5 Stars

Goldratt's book mainly focuses on constraints in a system which can be improved by founding the real effects and causes.

The book tells a story about a plant manager who has to improve his current situtation in three months. By chance he meets his physics teacher which will become his consultant later at the airport. And Alex begins to improve the "real numbers" of his plant. At first he focuses on bottlenecks of the plant, and then creates a balance between bottlenecks and non-bottlenecks.

Goldratt explains some more theories in this well written book. As a purchase specialist, now i have a new vision about the bottlenecks even in an office enviroment.

A must-read book.

Book Review: Classic, For a Reason
Summary: 5 Stars

The positve reviews for this business classic are overwhelming so Mr. Goldratt doesn't need my two cents, but the reason this book has been bought and read by so many people is simply because it communicates the concepts of the theory of constraints so effectively.

It's a very fast read - I read it on a cross-country plane ride and it's principles can be applied in many areas not just in manufacturing. It's more valuable now than ever as businesses are trying to do more with less and reduce costs while shortening response times. If there is any part of your business that you'd like to improve this book is worth the time because it can provide new ways to think about solving existing problems.

Book Review: IME 415 The Goal review
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is a story about a plant manager which has to turn his plant around before they shut it down. However this book shows and explains many different options available on improving a plant. Like determining the bottleneck in a plant and increasing throughput and decreasing inventory. This book also talks about the theory of constraints (TOC)which is a vital problem in the plant. Also this books shows how stressful it is being in his position and having to deal with his family. Overall this book was really useful and is a really good book. It shows how many plants are across the country. I would recomend this book to all engineering students and anyone else how is in upper management.

Book Review: The magic of Process, made easy to read
Summary: 5 Stars

What a great read.

The pace of a thriller but actually a book on process and management. It takes what can be a bit of a boring topic and gives it life.

The way the topic is presented is not new, the under dog (Alex Rogo in the story) has to overcome huge obstecles with the assiatance of his experienced guide (Jonah).

It's a very easy read and although you are not likely to implement the Theory of Constrains in your company after it you will be left thinking about other processes you could improve and how important the people factor is in any change.

This one is worth your time and few euro. It's also recommended text on most MBA programmes

Book Review: A must for aspiring managers in almost any field
Summary: 5 Stars

The author captivates the reader by creating situational drama that anyone working in manufacturing can relate with. The lessons he wants to convey are brilliantly laid out so that the reader is not spoon-fed the answers, yet the answers are clear and validated using logic which is very skillfully developed by the author. Unlike many books I've read on methodologies in manufacturing, the philosophy and methods described in this book are as relevant and timeless as the Socratic method itself, and in fact have far-reaching application outside of manufacturing. Bottom line - the book teaches us to find out what really matters to the company or organization, and focus on it.
