Book Reviews of The Girl Who Played with FireBook Review: Near Superhero Story is Great Fun! Summary: 5 Stars
In "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo" author Stieg Larsson introduced readers to Lisbeth Salander, a totally fascinating, but mysterious character that had me wanting much more. "The Girl Who Played with Fire" is a sequel and I got my wish. A social misfit and damaged personality, Lisbeth becomes a one-person sword of vengeance and right for abused women while at the same time, a fugitive from false murder charges. This tiny (4'11") young woman has a genius level intellect, self-defense and survival skills off the charts, a photographic memory, world-class computer hacking skills, incredible insight, and even becomes quite sexy. At times, she goes over the top into a cartoon-like or action-hero type character, but the book is a lot of fun and a very good story with a great deal of substance. The ending is imaginative and amazing and calls for a movie. The other main character from Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, is also back with a large role. I enjoyed him too, but Lisbeth Salander simply steals the show. These books take place in Sweden and the scenes and mores of Swedish society are also fun. It turns out the Lisbeth has a twin sister. Hopefully, we will meet her in another (the final?) installment.
Book Review: Stielg Larsson, how little I knew Ye! Summary: 5 Stars
I discovered Stielg Larsson when I read the first book in this series, "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo". I was totally amazed, mesmerized and thrilled to find a writer of this quality that I had never heard of before. The first story was so different and so addicting I found myself reading a book I didn't want to end. That hasn't happened to me in years and years, and I read 6-8 books per week. When I finally put it down I raced to Amazon.com to see what else he had written and found therre were two more books in this series, neither of which were released yet. And I also found out, much to my chagrin and saddness that the author was deceased! Nooooooooo!!! I immediately ordered the next book, "The Girl who Played with Fire" and then waited the agonizing weeks for it to become available. Meanwhile, I recommended the first book to all my friends. When the second book finally came I read it all in one sitting. Such intersting characters, plots and plenty of suspense! When you read a great book all in one sitting it's like eating all your Christmas candy in one day. There is a huge amount of time before Christmas comes again! And though I've ordered the next and last book I am faced with the fact that there will be no more after this. Why?
Book Review: What the one star review readers expected? Summary: 5 Stars
I can't believe some of the opinion on here. I mean, each to its own, but surely one star? I am just into the third book, and I've finished reading of the second book until 2:30 am last night. Firstly: all the details mentioned - it makes me to picture her life in every small way - yes, the furniture, the coffees, the apples - it makes me feel I am in that room. The technology and the maths - don't you find it fascinating? I bought a book of puzzle since I started reading this book. I found myself totally engrossed in the book. There is just enough emotions for each individual characters and some of the " evil " ones created a real bound of fury in me. The portrait of modern society, institutionalisation, decadence, guilt and looking for an ultimate truth - that's what I found beautiful about this book. It is feminist - but hey, it was written by man. The struggle of a few inspired individuals with their hearts in the right place, and against all odds, the bewildering media hype - you can find similar victories and unbelievable stories all throughout our history. If some of our real historical events weren't confirmed and documented, you would hardly believe them either. Open your mind and enjoy the book!
Book Review: Love Lisbeth to Death Summary: 5 Stars
i don't think you'll be able to take this book quite as seriously as the first because the plot is a bit contrived and the author seems to have a fairly set agenda that is a bit squishy: the main characters/protagonists have fairly open and very liberal sex lives and beliefs while the bad guys are involved in, gasp, prostitution. And yet, really, you get the feeling that the bad guys are made to be so ultra creepy that it gives our little Lisbeth license to go out and beat the hell out of them with tasers and guns and knives and other devices. And I have to admit that every time she took the bad guys on, I got those great goose bump and little tears in the eyes moments that make this such a fun read. I don't want to give much more of the story away, but I found the book to be a much lighter and faster read than the first book. I'll bet he wrote it in less than 1/2 the time as Tattoo.
So, five stars is pushing it. But when a character is created that you'll love the rest of your life and certain scenes are burned into your psyche forever, you can easily justify five stars. This book is an R rated plus book. Too bad we have to wait so long for the final book of the trilogy.
Book Review: very dark and intense trilogy Summary: 5 Stars
amazingly talented writer who died so sudden and so soon. have already got two books out and both immediately adapted into very dark and suspenseful movies. i often wondered why there so many talented writers, actors and great directors in these three freeze-ur-butt-off countries. maybe the coldness is the major factor like russia, a country also so cold that had created so many great writers for the literary world, sweden, demark and norway are also produced so many superior creative genes.
these two fantastic books with their movie adaptations have also created a heroin who's not as perfect and normal as we usually have found in most traditional suspenseful novels with a female character. a twisted minded, homosexual, bi-sexual, cruel, fierce, smart, tough-as-nail, evasive and dangerous computer hacker with a big heart and tenderness, a person who fights human evil with evil. a very memorable and shockingly likable female character who has so strongly impressed me.
couldn't hardly wait for the 3rd and the last one, and in the meantime, regretfully to realize that will be the last installment of the trilogy.
