Book Reviews of The Gate House

Book Review: hilarious
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm surprised so many people disliked it after saying they were DeMille fans. Of course it dragged on. A lot of scenes in his books do; the tour of Plum Island, or the boat chase in the same book. But this one was hilarious. I laughed out loud several times and once, at the flaming bananas around the casket line, I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. Loosen up folks, enjoy life a little, don't be so critical of everything, you'll live longer.

Book Review: A Surprisingly Great Sequel to the Gold Coast, loved it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I found the Gate House to be a wonderful return to the "Gold Coast" of Long Island. Bringing closure to the characters which were beautifully brought to life, only in the way that Nelson Demille can. I would like to revisit these characters again, and continue this saga, for I have found this particular story line the most intriguing and exciting of all Demilles characters. Great work, even if you have not read the Gold Coast

Book Review: Vintage DeMille Humor- A Great Sequel
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a big fan of DeMille's and Gold Goast is my favorite of all of his books. In this sequel, which is often laugh out loud funny, the culture and family clashes from Gold Coast continue unabated, from the uber-wasp in-laws and their world, to the straight out of Brooklyn mafioso neighbors and their world.
An easy going, vintage DeMille read, with great humor throughout. I very much enjoyed it.

Book Review: rereadable
Summary: 5 Stars

We're big fans of Nelson de Mille and found The Gate House and The Gold Coast a big change...FUNNY, in fact hilarious. Somehow we had missed The Gold Coast and read the sequel first. Then we read The Gold Coast and actually it was great fun knowing what was coming. It's rare for either of us to read any book twice, but we'll be reading these two again and laughing ourselves silly all over again.

Book Review: DeMille's Wit At His Best
Summary: 5 Stars

While DeMille takes his time weaving this sequel to "The Gold Coast" and dwells on Susan Sutter's crime of passion, John Sutter returns from the sea to recover something most important to him and, in doing so, rekindles a relationship that was tragically interrupted. DeMille does it all with his typical descriptive talent and wit... The books's hard to put down.
