Book Reviews of The Gate HouseBook Review: Classic DeMille Summary: 5 Stars
I was expecting more action, but THE GATE HOUSE made up for the lack of it with DeMille's humorous dialog and inner thoughts of the main character, John Sutter. Not many books make me lough out loud, but this one did, especially when Sutter is in the company of his snobby in-laws. The book focused more on his and his ex wife's relationship than anything else; I suppose that's why there are so many negative reviews here, but DeMille knows how to tell a great story no matter what the subject. I highly recommend this book and can't praise it enough. I would certainly welcome more from DeMille whith John and Susan Sutter as the main characters.
Book Review: LOVE IT! LOVE IT! Summary: 5 Stars
This is My first Nelson DeMille Book. I just love It! I read it on my Kindle. Perhaps I liked it so much because I lived in Locust Valley
after my arrival from England in the late 1950. All those places he mentioned on Long Island were so familiar to me. Sure the story was a little unrealistic. That's what we like, a little fantasy.Who wouldn't like such a clever,Loving, & forgiving Husband. and being so beautiful and rich would be fine also.I love his style of Sarcastic Humor.Quite often I burst out laughing at his off hand remarks. Very British! Easy to read.
Book Review: LOVED THIS BOOK! Summary: 5 Stars
I hesitated buying this book because of the overall low rating. Am I glad I ignored that low rating! I LOVED it! I too am a dedicated DeMille fan and am surprised other dedicated fans gave it a 1,2, or 3 star rating! Shame on them! The Gate House did not let me down. I laughed out loud so many times. I did not want this book to end! (I felt the same way after finishing The Lion's Game - one of my favorite books of all time. What a great movie THAT would make!)I highly recommend The Gate House and ALL of his previous ones!
Book Review: The Gate House Summary: 5 Stars
Mr. DeMIlle has the ability to keep your interest from the very first page and not want to put the book away until you have unfortunately finished another great book. His characters are filled with life and make you identify with their thoughts and feelings. His sarcasm may be lost on some readers but I personally enjoy the "snarky" remarks and unspoken thoughts of his main characters.
My only regret about finishing this book is the amount of time lapse until his next book arrives at my local bookseller.
Book Review: Demille is back on top Summary: 5 Stars
Nelson Demille has always been at the top of my reading list, but with his last, Firefall, I thought he had "lost it." But he came roaring back with the Gatehouse. Having read and been fascinated by the original Gold Coast, I was concerned this couldn't measure up. But Demille cleverly weaves in enough from the past to make this 700 word sequel compelling from beginning I haven't quite finished it, but I almost hate to because it is so good.
