Book Reviews of The Feast of All SaintsBook Review: A great novel Summary: 5 Stars
I read The Feast of All Saints shortly after discovering Anne Rice (about 4 years ago). It is one of the most well written novels as far as: 1. Pure writing. Reading this book, to me, was like reading prose. Her descriptions are clear and concise, her words are well chosen, and her characters are real. 2. Characters. Although I have not picked up this book for several years, I still feel as if I know the characters and their stories. 3. Originality. I enjoy all of her writing, but this creole story is not like others I've read by her or anyone else. I would recommend this anyone who appreciates historical literature (or just great literature). I don't want to see anyone miss out on this story just because her other books are not her style.
Book Review: I highly recommend this book! Summary: 5 Stars
If you like historical fiction, you will definitely like this book. I was so fascinated with the historical context, I researched it further and found the book very accurate in its details of a little-known "society" that existed pre-Civil War. You can Google New Orleans People of Color to find historical information. I have not read Anne Rice, since I'm not interested in her usual topics, so am not familiar with her writing style, however, she kept my attention with this book. I couldn't put it down. I read a lot, and it is one of my all-time favorite books.
I rented the movie, which was a disappointment, as usual, but it gave me a visual impression of the characters and places.
Book Review: A Must Read for Anyone Interested in Creole Culture Summary: 5 Stars
In this book Anne Rice manages to couple a wonerful storyline with a rich dose of historical data. She is not an imitator that helps to carry on the negative stereotypes about Southern Lousiana. Mrs. Rice has definitely done her homework on this subject and this shines through in her rich desriptive detail.. She was able to convey the attitudes, beliefs, and feeeling felt by this unique group of people to her readers. My experience with all the Anne Rice books that I have ever read were wonderful, but this particualr book stands head and shoulders above the rest. I would also like to know "where's the sequel?"
Book Review: My all-time favorite novel! Summary: 5 Stars
Anne Rice has managed to write the best, most historically correct piece of historical fiction about the free people of color of Ante-Bellum New orleans that I have ever read. This coming of age story about a young man coming to terms with himself, his culture, and the world in which he lives is at times both beautiful and disturbing. Anne Rice has atrue understanding of these people and this period of New Orleans history which indicates hours of research. The characters truly come alive and the story is heartbreakingly real. You'll love it! You have to read it!
Book Review: This may be Rice's finest work! Summary: 5 Stars
Unlike most of Anne Rice's other works, this one deals with a period and region in American history that has been little explored in popular fiction. The setting, in just post-Louisiana Purchase New Orleans, is perfect. The period and historical facts have been meticulously well researched and should be an eye-opener for most Americans, who tend to be woefully ignorant about their country's past. Her development of the characters, their attitudes, hopes and fears, is skillfully done. Altogether, this book is a great read that also imparts knowledge at the same time
