Book Reviews of The Enemy (Jack Reacher, No. 8)

Book Review: MP Mystery/Thriller
Summary: 5 Stars

As a librarian, patrons are always suggesting titles for me to read; and I am usuallly a non-fiction reader with slight diversions into fiction here and there. This was one of the titles suggested to me that I read, and I was impressed!

Jack Reacher is a MP recently re-assigned in late December in 1989. A 2-Star General is found dead on New Year's Eve and Jack is thrown into the case with more seemingly unrelated murders and scandal. The story moves along at a fast pace and keeps the reader wanting to know who it was that committed the crime(s). His description of the crime scenes are not detailed enough to make one squirm or sick, however, he does provide enough information to keep the reader knowing what happened

Definately recommended for any fan of fast-paced mysteries and/or military or police procedural type fiction. I feel this will appeal to fans of the tv series JAG and those that want something faster paced.

Book Review: Murder -Conspiracy -Coverup High Up In The U.S. Army
Summary: 5 Stars

This was my first full length novel read by the author. Previously I was introduced to him by his short story Ten Keys which was included in The Cocaine Chronicles. It has been pointed out by some reviewers that the author was not correct with some of the facts about the military in this book. Nevertheless,to me, the plot moved right along at page turning speed and seemed plausible. Jack Reacher was indeed a true action hero. I very much enjoyed the character of MP investigator Lt. Summer. Hopefully she'll return in a future adventure. Basically the story was in late 1989 early 1990 as the military faced downsizing in the post cold war era. Certain key tank brass were concerned that they might be phased out or cut down more or less as were battleships in the past. They took steps to keep their power. Murdered were a two-star general, his wife and several experienced Delta Force members. Toss in some gay sex and you have a very exciting story.

Book Review: I am repulsed by the negative reviews!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

ALL the negative reviews are of people that have some kind of wierd axe to grind with America or Lee Child. This book is absolutely fantastic! This was the very first Lee Child book I've read. I wasn't expecting anything out of the ordinary. I am thrilled that I found this book. I loaned it to my father and he loved it too. The book develops a strong central mystery that unfolds in completely unexpected and supremely satisfying ways. One of the unique aspects of this story is that it never (and I mean never) leaves the main character. It is for this reason that you become the main character. You discover clues as the main character finds them and analyzes them. This book is unquestionably worthy of 5 stars!!!! Do not let the negative reviews frighten you away! I'll be the first to say that Lee Childs previous book "Without Fail" is much less enjoyable. But this book is worth your time!

Book Review: A gripping novel
Summary: 5 Stars

This was my first Jack Reacher novel. I loved the characters and the way the plot unfolds. A must read for anyone who loves a good suspense thriller. It took me all of two days to complete. I couldn't put it down, I was even thinking about it in the office. The author provides interesting details and the style of writing is eloquent. Jack Reacher has become one of my favorite characters already. His intellect, cold steely confidence and fearless nature is almost inspiring. However I was disappointed to note that this characters ultimately quits the army. But I can't wait to read the latest Jack Reacher novel: "One Shot".

Book Review: One of the best, bar none...
Summary: 5 Stars

This guy, along with Robert Crais and T. Jefferson Parker, is one of the best mystery writers out there. He can't write them fast enough in my opinion, and Jack Reacher is a man's man on par with Travis McGee. Read this book, along with every other Reacher novel out there and you can't possibly be disappointed.

Negative reviewers get over yourselves. The fact that Child isn't American doesn't mean anything, and anyone that believes that his military conspiracies are too farfetched should snap out of it. Pick up a history book for chrissakes...
