This is a beautifully written, layered novel that touches on a number of important social issues while examining the lives of its characters in a personal way.
The people who complain about the ending clearly don't understand it, nor do they appreciate how hard it was too pull it off.

I stayed up until 4:00 am this morning reading The Double Bind, because I HAD to finish it, and what an ending! Seldom do I read a book (and I read many) when I don't at least have a suspicion of the ending, but this was certainly the exception! Would make an awesome movie! Great work.

Read this book, and you may want to read it again. This story flows without a gap. If you skip ahead while you read this book, you will spoil it for yourself. I loved this book. Bohjalian draws you in right from the start. Very intriguing tie into the Great Gatsby. Now I need to read that book too! Yes, I know, I should have already read it but the quick look I took on Wikipedia provided me with all I needed to be up to speed.
