Book Reviews of The Darkest Evening of the YearBook Review: Page Turner Summary: 4 Stars
I hadn't read a Koontz book for several years.... I had been put off after giving up on one of his books half way through (only 3 books in my life have ever had that effect on me). But I have very fond memories of some of Koontz's earlier works, so, on a whim, thought I'd give this book a go.
I was generally pleased I did.
I'm sure that it contains many weaknesses from an academic, character portrayal & development perspective, but from a "am i going to want to turn the next page and read the next chapter?" persepctive, this one's a winner. Yes, perhaps I was suckered in a little by the dogs, and Amy's description of the life and death of her first "Nickie" genuinely moved me, but the main plot kept me riveted and wanting more. Only the disappointing ending stops me from giving 5 stars.
Book Review: One of the Sweetest Books of the Year Summary: 4 Stars
Oh, this was a very sweet book. Nothing too bad ended up happening and they all lived happily ever after. I haven't read any of Koontz's novels recently, but this one struck me as very nice. I loved that it was mostly about dogs - though it was a little sad that it was only Golden Retrievers - though it did make me think of Hannah. All in all, I really loved it. It made me teary-eyed, but still happy. From what I recall of his other books, I think I have enjoyed this one the most.
Book Review: First time reader of Koontz! Summary: 4 Stars
Ok I guess I should have picked up a Koontz book before now, seeing I am 50 years old! I have been a avid reader of King. Now I want to test the waters. Koontz is a really good writer, easy to read his work. I could not wait to pick up this book every time I set it down.
Now I am ordering my next Koontz book... Hmmm but which one?
Enjoy this one!
Book Review: Easy, enjoyable read Summary: 4 Stars
I love to see the reviews on a book. Why does everyone summarize the book? I want to know if it is good or bad, that's it. Anyway, this is a good book. It's an easy read, you don't have to worry about spending a huge amount of time w/ this book and a dictionary. I do feel the ending was rushed, not the ending the book deserved. If you like dogs you will like this book.
Book Review: Excellent, one minor quibble for me Summary: 4 Stars
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I did feel that the level of supernatural involvement required to bring about the conclusion was excessive. But that may be a matter of personal taste. Koontz did build up to it, as the supernatural element escalated steadily throughout the story.
