Book Reviews of The Darkest Evening of the Year

Book Review: BRILLIANT
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow, I've read over 30 Dean Koontz books and so far this is deffinatly one of the best! Brilliant!

Amy Redwing lives to save abused and abandoned dogs, has even started her charity, the Golden Heart Foundation, with over 100 volounteers to look after the dogs she saves from abuse. In the first chapter of the book we see her rescueing, Nicki, a golden retriever from an abuseive owner.

It's difficult trying to explain the plot of this books really - not because of a lack of one - but because there are a lot of mysteries and plot twists

I loved this book, it was very suspenceful in parts and also parts made me laugh-out-loud, and of course it features the usually loveable characters you find in a Koontz book. As well as the usual Koontzian brilliance, golden retriever dogs (mostly Nicki, but partly Amy's other two retrievers, Fred and Ethel) play an important part in this novel. It sounds silly when you it like that, but honestly it's great in the book, makes it extra special (and you will DEFFINATLY love this if you are a dog lover), I have never had a dog, or the desire for a pet dog, but this book really made me wish I had a golden retriever.

Super highly reccomended (I loved it) to Koontz fans or anybody looking for a good read. As usual for one of Koontz' more recent books this makes you feel like maybe the world isnt such a bad place after all :).

Summary: 5 Stars

Amy Redwing, former victim of an abusive relationship, devotes her life to running a rescue organization for golden retrievers, where she searches for the perfect forever home for the abandoned ones and seeks treatment and rehabilitation for the abused and neglected ones. When Amy and her boyfriend, architect Brian McCarthy attempt to rescue a golden named Nickie, they find themselves in the middle of a domestic dispute. Amy senses a connection to Nickie and decides to keep her, unknowing that a chain of events are occurring which will lead Amy and Brian back to traumatic events of their past lives and into extreme danger, and that Nickie may be the only one to save them.

Koontz has been described as a master storyteller and this reviewer agrees. His love for dogs shines through with this book and enhances the story. The plot moves at a fast pace, with plenty of evil characters to entertain thrill-seekers, buffeted by Amy and Brian's love for one another and for dogs. Excellent book.

Book Review: Yet another good read by Mr. Koontz
Summary: 5 Stars

I read this great book while on vacation in Costa Rica (I know, I know... reading while on vacation). It proved to be another great read by Mr. Koontz.
As many of the other reviews have synopsized the content, I will not do that here. I will, however, tell you that if you like interesting twists and turns and a great ending - then you will love this book.
If you don't - then... well... no comment.

There are parts of the story that will make your blood boil and make you shed a tear as well. It is another great story.

Book Review: Another wonderful book from Dean Koontz
Summary: 5 Stars

Another great book, I was unable to put this one down. A great story-along the lines of One Door Away From Heaven, From The Corner of His Eye, Life Expectancy, and The Good Guy; The Darkest Evening of The Year leads you down a twisting path with character definitions and a captivating storyline. I was sad that the book was over, but again looking forward to the next Dean Koontz book I will read. For dog lovers of all breeds, this is an especially rewarding book.

Book Review: Still love Dean Koontz
Summary: 5 Stars

All these years later & I stil love Dean Koontz books!! Darkest Evening of the Year is another great one.

Fast paced, suspenseful, lovable characters, nasty villains, great ending!

I have to admit, while I'm not a dog owner, I really enjoyed the animal aspect of the book, as I am an animal lover. I HIGHLY recommend Koontz. Out of, what, at least 50+ books, only a handful of his have disappointed, you can't go wrong!
