Book Review: This is a heart stopper!

"The Dark Tide" by Andrew Gross

Charles Frienman runs a hedge fund with some questionable investments. One day he takes the Metro to New York from his Greenwich, Ct. home. This is the day that terrorists bomb Grand Central Station. Charles never returns home.

Karen Friedman views the news as it is being described in scenes similiar to the 9/11 wives.

The same day as the bombing, there is a hit and run in Greenwich and Charles name and cell phone number are found in the victim's shirt.

Things don't get easier for Karen, one day she is threatened by two men looking for a large amount of money that Charles mishandled. Then on the one year anniversary of the bombing, while watching a news review, she sees Charles leaving the train station covered with soot. Finally, when Karen's daughter is threatened, Karen asks for help and Lt. Ty Hauck offers his assistence.

Gross does a fantastic job with this novel. His talent twoard building suspense and keeping the action at a boiling point are unsurpassed. The characters are well drawn and believable. Ty Hauck is an excellent hero in the Jack Reacher mold.

I enjoyed this novel from start to finish. I'm glad no one made any unexpected noise or I would have jumped out of my seat.
Highly Recommended and my pick for Thriller of the Year.

Book Review: A terrific story
Summary: 5 Stars

Frankly I started reading this novel because of two not too praiseworthy reasons. First, I had just finished a couple of in depth scholarly volumes and needed to turn to a detective story to rest my mind, and this one was available. Second, I had read a number of books where Andrew Gross received second billing to James Paterson on volumes that I did not think were that great and I wondered how Gross wrote when he wrote his own work. I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed what I read.

I found that Gross told an interesting story that developed naturally with exciting events. The characters were well developed, believable, and likeable. Gross did not reveal all the information needed to solve the case until the end in a proper manner, although there were hints along the way for readers who paid attention. And, most of all, the tale kept my attention throughout.

If Gross would have asked me, should I join Patterson in writing books, I would have advised him to do so, simply because Patterson is a well-known writer and this would give him publicity, and money beside. However, I think that Gross writes better when he writes himself. The faults that people find in the Patterson books are absent in this volume. I look forward to reading other Gross novels.

Book Review: Pretty good.
Summary: 5 Stars

What Andrew Gross does well, is create and consistently maintain a fairly complex plot. Everything ties together well in the end and you see why things, such as a random reference to the color of a car, becomes important. Also, the story is suspenseful and contains enough surprises to be very satisfying. Unfortunately, the love portion of the story rings of overly dramatic Lifetime movies for women who like to cry. Also, the dialogue is frequently unrealistic and cliched. For example, there is one paragraph where Ty says Karen's name over and over. Like, if he doesn't repeat it every sentence, she might forget who she is. In another scene, Karen's mood swing and subsequent dialogue sounds like something from a soap opera. All in all, the book is good, and I would recommend it to anyone. That said, I hope next time the author spends a bit more time making the rest of the novel as good as the plot. Finally, if you heard of Andrew Gross thanks to his partnership with James Patterson, you are in for a treat. Gross is ten times better than Patterson, and unlike the highly overrated Patterson, he writes his own books.

Book Review: One of the GREAT Mystery Author's...Andrew Gross!!
Summary: 5 Stars

How good are his books? ... I picked up the paper back of The Dark Tide, and was about 10 pages into it and realized I had read the hard cover when it came out! I decided.."this is so good, I'll read it again"! I've only done this twice in my 70 years! I admire this author's writing style, excitement, and have to decided to just re-read ALL of his books after I get them! His detective Ty Hauck is in the Ludlum tradition of an "exciting, hero"! WHY hasn't some movie company discovered Mr. Gross! His books...especially The Dark Tide (after my second reading) would be an astounding thriller and so appropriate for these times in the 21 Century! KUDO's to the AUTHOR!!

Book Review: The Dark Tide
Summary: 5 Stars

I had not read any books by this particular author. I was pleased to find that his work is quite good, fast-paced, and engrossing. Since I usually read novels
in bed before falling asleep, with this novel, I never awoke with the book hitting me in the face!! It's that good.
