Book Reviews of The Cornel West ReaderBook Review: cornel west reader Summary: 5 Stars
Although unnecessarily dense at times and verbose at others, this book is a wonderful sample of the work of one of America's most important public intellectuals. His open discussions of racism and sexism and his sincere attempts to reconcile his "Chekovian Christian" ethics with Marxism are fascinating. Especially enjoyable are his essays on popular culture and the essays "black strivings in the the twilight of civilization", "Christian Love and Heterosexism", and "Religion and the left".
Book Review: Apodeictic Summary: 5 Stars
I keep a dictionary and a history book close at hand to guide my comprehension of Professor West's literature. The additional effort is to my benefit as I find myself educated exponentially through his words. If you appreciate perspectives that go beyond shallow reflections and understand the crucial role of history and philosophy in contemporary issues, then you will find Cornel West a master sage.
Note: Intelligence is sexy and Mr. West is one of the hottest men alive!

Book Review: Great Plane Reading Summary: 5 Stars
On a six-hour flight, this book kept me company. I especially enjoyed West's thoughts on the relationship between blacks and jews and the definition of black people in the context of a multicultural society. I thought his discussion of black music could have been expanded or left out entirely. It served very small purpose since many other cultural critics delve more broadly on the subject. But, as a whole, I found the selections insightful as always.
Book Review: Cornal West Reader Summary: 5 Stars
Interesting and informative, West gives a new perspective on the Black identity in the post era. One has to be well versed in philosophy, religion, and sociological theory to derive the full essence of West's writings. West is truly an intellectual, one driven by commitment, conviction, and love for the Black community. He is truly an asset to the academic community.
