Book Reviews of The Complete Illustrated Guide to Joinery

Book Review: Well done, Taunton !
Summary: 5 Stars

As I went into some DIY woodworking projects and needed some help, I bought this one together with another Taunton series: Andy Rae's "The Complete Illustrated Guide to Furniture and Cabinet Construction". Excellent books both of them. The sections are very well balanced and the text is divided logically on joinery techniques from a manual and power tool point of view. It gives you freedom to choose the most appropriate technique but you also have the basics (without power tools) which is very helpful in order to understand it better. No fuss about gear and promotion of one brand or another, the book it is very careful about that and it gives you freedom to choose between category of tools and not vendors. The photographs are beautiful and high quality print (it is printed in Italy, famous for its publishers) and worth the money. Really, you have a lot to learn if you are a beginner or mid-advanced in the art of woodworking. Also, the book is a very good reference for those that are teaching these techniques given the quality of the pictures and clarity of text. Five stars, worth every penny IMO.

Book Review: Helpful Workbench Reference
Summary: 5 Stars

As an intermediate woodworker, I often need to review a procedure before undertaking it. I have found Mr. Rogowski's book to be an excellent reference to use at the bench. It explains techniques in two ways, text and visual. You can read about the procedure and clarify particular aspects by studying the clear photographs. I find the combination of text and visual to be the way I learn best. It's almost like watching the instructor demonstrate the technique.
The text is concise, yet gets the procedure across. I want to review and then cut lumber as opposed to reading for an extended time. The photographs are well produced and frequently clear up questions I have from the text. The variety of techniques included stimulates me to try other ways of doing the joinery to develop my own variations and adds to my repetoire. Since a single technique may not work out for a particular situation, having a number of ways to do a particular joint comes in handy when solving woodworking dilemas.
All in all, I found this to be a very beautiful and helpful book.

Book Review: Truly an excellent book
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this book from a store and am sorry I did because I paid full retail price instead of Amazon's vastly lower price. Although I did over pay, I still feel that I got my money's worth. This is an EXCELLENT book. The photographs are absolutely top notch. The text is superbly written and very easy to follow. The lay out is great as well. Even the quality of the binding is noteworthy. There are so many types and methods of joinery discussed I was almost overwhelmed and decided to take my time reading the entire book. This truly is a reference manual. I will be buying most if not all of the books in the "Complete Illustrated Guide to..." series as my need and budget allow. Absolutely must have!

Book Review: If you do not own this book, your work will suffer
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the seminal guide to one of the most important tasks in woodworking. I have learned more from just relaxing with this book than I have filling my dust collector. This will help you with both your design and construction.

Covering methods, design, tools and techniques, Mr. Rogowski has provided all of us with both the inspiration and instructions to greatly improve our woodworking.

Lavishly illustrated with a pictorial table of contents that cannot be beat.

Imagine, building that cabinet without using a single screw or nail...

Book Review: This is ths only book you need on the subject!!!!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

If I was ever going to say one book comes as close to totally covering a subject this would be it. Then again I am an amateur - so maybe I am easily impressed? I just really enjoy difficult interesting projects that generally have little purpose other than my own pleasure. If this book has a fault it is in that it does not define the difficulty on some of the joints but, it is beautifully organized and about all you need other than a lot of patients and the right tools.
