Book Reviews of The Clear Skin DietBook Review: A good starting point to change your way of thinking Summary: 5 Stars
The book was extremely detailed and provided research to back their claims - occassionally some of the descriptions of the research findings were a bit too detailed for me to keep my attention but I definitely appreciated the writers providing the research and also the obvious lack of research into the relationship between diet & acne which also has led to lack of education in dermatologists regarding diet (in all my years of acne and multiple doctors I have not had a single one ask me about my diet - it was been through the internet and this book I discovered this finding). I was making changes very early on in the book - before hitting the chapter telling you what to do and I definitely saw improvement. I didn't make any dramatic changes but I definitely agree with 2 main points they make - the affect of dairy increasing acne and the use of high omega 3 fatty acid foods to help decrease acne. I don't stay on a "strict" diet because of this book but it has made me more aware of the foods I put into my body so that I make better choices - and I have clear skin right now to prove it :)
Book Review: This worked for me! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is a really informative book when it comes to clearing acne. I cant say that the lifestyle that this book presents will work for everybody, but it definately worked for me. And i have been trying alot of different creams and even antibiotics to clear my acne.
I do belive though that what this book is presenting may be something that the acne sufferer who have already done some "light-research" might know. But if you are totally new to the topic of acne, diet and lifestyle, you should buy this book. Everything you need to know is presented here. And every little tip that is given out, is backed up by steady research and theory.
And maybe if you are like i was, and you actually know alot about acne, this book may be of value anyway. Dr. Logan goes so much into detail on every aspect of acne that there probably is something that you dont know. And the recepies and the foodlist in the end of the book is pretty useful.
PS: Im from Norway so please overlook any spelling mistakes ;)
Book Review: Essential Reading! Summary: 5 Stars
I have struggled with acne for the past 19 years. During this time, I have tried almost every imaginable medical treatment. While I found some success, my acne always returned as soon I stopped the medication. I felt that there must be some connection between diet and acne for this problem to persist. However, I was never able to find a dermatologist to support this suspicion or point me in the right direction.
The Clear Skin Diet provided me with the research and understanding I had sought all these years. The research is thoroughly presented and accessible to the general public. After incorporating many of the authors' suggestions into my daily life I have seen a significant difference in the severity of my acne! I would recommend this book to anyone who has struggled with acne and hopes to make a lasting change in their lives.
Book Review: Fascinating, well-researched book... Summary: 5 Stars
This book recommends adding anti-inflammatory foods such as Ginger and Turmeric. But what I personally found so fascinating was a look at the embarrassingly flawed research design of the two "acne-diet" studies to which so many dermatologists appeal.
One study was conducted by a "scientist" with a well-documented bias against any diet connection, which involved only 26 research subjects. He did not bother to use a control group, did not bother to find their baseline diet, and divided this paltry group of 26 into 4 subgroups--dairy, sugar, chocolate, peanuts. Without giving the scientific community the number of subjects in each group, he concluded after only one month that there was no difference in acne. Granted, this was in 1970, when we didn't know as much about nutrition, but how can you forgive a study design with so many holes?
Book Review: This book changed my life. Summary: 5 Stars
I have battled acne on and off for 17 years. I've been on Accutane, ProActive, various antibiotics, creams, gels - you name it. Nothing really worked and nothing really PREVENTED the breakouts. I had some sense that the acne was a result of diet, but I wasn't sure what about my diet was wrong. I was told by someone to stop eating dairy, but that didn't help. What did help, as this book shows you, is to completely change my diet - lots of fresh veggies and little to no processed foods. I also started to include more fish in my diet, which also helped. I also figured out that sugar was a big aggrevator of my acne. Make no mistake, you likely will still need to see a dermatologist if you have problems with acne like I did, but the diet helps immensely. Plus, I feel much better overall. Thanks so much to the authors!!
