This amusing book is full of odd tidbits about the Civil War, but really does help shed a lot of light into the details of the war most never heard of before. Each chapter is another set of facts that will amuse and lead one to realize how complex this war really was.
It is not a difficult read, and does not have to be read in any particular order. Each chapter stands alone and apart from those preceeding and following it. I notice it is no longer available in print, but used bookstores may have it, or it may be in the closeout bargain section of your local bookseller. If you can find it, buy it. It is a gem with a great deal of useful information.

There are many books written about the Civil War that discuss the battles and military tactics. These topics are good for someone studying military strategies. This book is for the people who like the interesting side facts of a situation, or the little things that didn't necessarily have any thing to do with the outcome, but are interesting to know. Some are humorous, some are sad, but at the title suggests, they are strange and fascinating. Burk Davis brings these to us in an interesting way. This low cost book is very useful to me in my study of the Civil War.

...you had better be up on your Civil War basics before attempting to read this book. It assumes that the reader is well aware of the main battles, campaigns, personalities and relative strengths and weaknesses of both the North and the South.
There's bound to be something new in here for everyone but the hardest of the hard core Civil War afficionados. Well-written, breezy, although oftentimes disjointed and random.
This book is also published under the titles 'Our Incredible Civil War' and 'The Incredible Civil War' by the same author.
Book Review: Christmas Present

I can't give a complete review, as this was purchased as a Christmas present for a nephew who is a history buff. I leafed thru the book after receiving it, and I found it very interesting, the stories were well written and presented. We do know that our nephew was pleased when he looked at it. I'd give it a 4 out 5 just on our experiences.Book Review: unique civil war book
