Book Reviews of The Capture (Guardians of Ga'hoole, Book 1)

Book Review: Great book, great theme!
Summary: 5 Stars

Do you like adventure stories? Do you like books about animals? If so, then the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series is just for you. In The Capture, Kathryn Lasky illustrates beautifully the world of young Soren, a barn owl, who is born in the forest of Tyto. Being unable to fly, Soren is pushed out of the nest by his brother, Kludd. Kludd, thinking that a raccoon of wolf would grab Soren for their dinner, easily shoves him out of the cozy hollow. But long behold, a large owl swoops down and retrieves Soren and takes him to the most deadly place on Earth - St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls.
When Soren and his new friend, Gylfie, discover the brainwashing process of St. Aggie's, moon blinking, they discover that by telling the Legends of Ga'Hoole, they can avoid the moon's power. They know that they must escape. But St. Aggie's is located in a tough, windless flying terrain. Can two extremely young owlets escape from such a place where the only way out is straight up?
Filled with richly imagined characters and wonderful creativity, The Capture is definitely a great read for ages 9-12. I read this book in two days and I love to read all kinds of books. But this is positively one of the best I've ever read. First in a series of six, The Capture delivers the valuble message "it takes courage to make your dreams take flight."

Book Review: Owls,Owls,Owls, KCS
Summary: 5 Stars

"The world spiraled, the needles of the old fir tree blurred against the night sky and then there was a sickening sensation as the forset foor raced toward him. Soren madly tried to flap his stubby little wings. Useless! He thought, I am a dead owlet. Three weeks out of the shell and my life ends."

Soren, a barn owl, has fallen out of his nest. A larger owl sees Soren and kidnapes him and takes him to a terrible orphanage deep in an unknown cayon. There he meets a frined named Gyfie and they both know that the orapange is not all what it seems. Soren belives that it is full of great evil and a place of terriable crime. Soren and Gyfie soon find that the only way to escape this terriable orphanage is to do something that none of them has ever done before-to fly!

I really enjoyed reading this book. I think that Kathryn Lasky did a really great job writing it. I liked how she discribed how the owls lived, flew and hunted. Also in the book there were alot of poems that some of the owls would sing and I really enjoyed reading those. It did not take me very long to finish the book because it was not really slow at all. I would recomend this book to anyone who likes owls and fastasy stories. Once you start reading this book you don't want to stop until you finish it.

Book Review: The Guardians of Ga'hoole: The Capture
Summary: 5 Stars

I am an English student at Keith School. I read the book for a book report and thought very highly of it! Now I am trying to read every book that comes out.
In the begining, Soren, along with his brother Kludd, live in a Hoole tree along the River Hoole.
About the middle of the first chapter, Soren watches his sister, Eglantine, hatch from her egg. He is very interested about his early childhood and how he acted. His brother Kludd didn't like this very much.
One night, Soren's parents are out hunting. Soren is standing by the edge of the hollow he calls home, when he thinks he falls. When he lands, he calls to Mrs. Plithiver, the blind-snake maid, when he hears a rustling and she dosen't return.
Then a very large owl swoops down, picks him up and carries him to St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls. Soren then meets an Elf owl named Gylfie. Gylfie and Soren work together to get out of the evil Academy. They avoid moon blinking, getting caught by guards, almost make it away and try to figure out the secrets of St. Aegolius Academy. If you want to find out what all of these things mean, if Soren and Gylfie make it out and solve the secrets of the Academy, I suggest you read the book.

Book Review: An overview of "the capture"
Summary: 5 Stars

The setting for the book, "Guardians of Ga'hoole: The Capture", is mainly in the canyons and tunnels of St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls. This place is the perfect place for keeping young owlets with no flight experience, until Soren and Gylfie were captured. The two largest problems these two very close friends had were to escape being moon blinked or scalded, and to learn how to fly so they could warn the owl world of the treacheries of St. Aggie's. The only way for them to do any of this is with the help of Grimble, an adult boreal owl at St. Aggie's.
So Soren and Gylfie were given temporarily access to the inventorium, where unbeknownst the overlords of St. Aggie's, the two of them were instructed on how to fly by Grimble. Finally, the night came when Grimble believed that Soren and Gylfie were strong enough to make the flight straight up and out of the canyons. So that night Soren and Gylfie were led by Grimble into the library, a place at St. Aggie's forbidden to all but the overlords, so they could take off and fly into the night, hopefully never to be seen at St. Aggie's again. That night haunts both Soren's and Gylfie's minds because as they left St. Aggie's, one of the overlords murdered Grimble.
