Book Reviews of The Capture (Guardians of Ga'hoole, Book 1)Book Review: "right side up in an upside down world..." Summary: 5 Stars
(...)I am the only one in my town to have all the (...) and i've read them all, so trust me, i know what i'm talking about when i say that the guardians of ga'hoole series is the best owl fantasy book ever writen.
Guardians of Ga'hoole: the Capture starts of in the hollow of a Barn Owl (tyto Alba) named sorren, his brother Kludd, his Mum and Da, and his nest maid snake Mrs. plithiver(or Mrs. P, as sorren calls her). It starts with Sorren's new baby sister, Eglantine, hatching. when sorren is looking over the edge of his hollow to wait for his parents to come home from a hunting trip, he mysterioustly finds himself falling. when he wakes up, he hears owls- and half asleep yells to his father, who is not there. he finds himself being carried away, in the talons of a large owl- with yellow eyes. he gets taken to a horrible place called "St. Augolious acadomy for orphined owls", witch appauls sorren, due to the fact that he knows his parents are still alive. here he meets a young elf owl-Gylfie- whom he becomes quick friends with. he is assigned a "number designation" from a snowy owl named "Aunt Finny"(but she insists he call her "Aunty") At St. Aggies, the young owls are forced to do horrible things-one of wich is sleeping in a huge room in a "proper sleeping posistion"(witch sorren finds to be uncomfortable) and to "sleep march" whale repeating there real names, and then saying there number designations once. Gylfie tells Sorren about how if an owl sleeps in the full moons light they will get "moon blinked" and not know up from down, or left from right. Sorren descovers that by repeating his name it becomes nothing more then a word- he descovers there moon blinking them with there names. Also, much to Sorrens displeasure, at St. Aggies the "wh words" are forbidden, along with any question. Sorren and Gylfie block out the moon blinking by telling tails of the Guardians of Ga'hool (or tales of yore, as Gylfie calls them) the most ancient order of owls ever known. Sorren and Gylfie need to escape the rocks and cliffs of St. Aggies- but the only way out, is up. After Sorren and Gylfie escape St. Aggies, they meet a Great Grey named Twilight, when Gylfie accidentaly lands upside down and doesn't know how to get right side up. Twilight tells how when he was an owllet he, too, had been snatched up by St. Aggie's patrols, but he fought his way out of the owls grasp. He constantly gloats thoughout the rest of the series about how he came from "the orphin school of tough learning". They search for Sorren's parents and siblings, but to no luck. But, they finaly find one of Sorren's family members- Mrs. P, who tells Sorren that his suspitions were corect- Kludd pushed Sorren out of his nest. They decide the travel though the desert kingdom of Kuneer-Gylfie's home- to see if they have luck of finding her parents. Still nothing. but, they do find someone in the deserts. A strange burrowing owl nammed Digger. He has long, hairless legs, and walks rather then flies(much to Twilights consussion). Digger tells them how when his parents were out hunting, his brother was EATEN by one of St. Aggies patrols. Egg stealing in amballa, and now canabalism in Kuneer. they silently make a bond in the desert of blood, they they are, and forever will be a band, and set out for the Great Ga'hoole tree, on an island in the middle of the ocean hoole.

In the first book in the GUARDIANS... series, the reader is introduced to Soren, a barn owl and the centerpiece of the series. When Soren is pushed from his family's nest by his older brother, he is rescued from certain death on the forest floor by agents from a mysterious school for orphaned owls, St. Aggie's. When Soren arrives at St. Aggie's, he suspects there is more to the school than meets the eye. He and his new friend, the clever and scrappy Gylfie, find out that St. Aggie's is actually a training camp where the school's leader can groom young owls to help achieve her goal--(cont.)
