Book Reviews of The Bridges of Madison CountyBook Review: A book that moved me deeply... Summary: 5 Stars
I haven't read a book in one sitting for a long long time. I like to take my time while reading books pausing every few pages and thinking over what I read till then. This is the same whether the book is fiction or non-fiction, but the pausing time is usually greater for non-fiction books, understandbly. Today I went to Minneapolis Central Library and while browsing the shelves I saw the book, "Bridges of Madison County". I had seen the movie earlier and had liked it very much, especially towards the ending scenes. I am a huge fan of Clint Eastwood and I like all his movies, so me liking this movie was no surprise. I had heard that this movie was a special case where the movie out-did the book, which usually doesnt happen.
I took the book from the shelf and read the first few pages and I got interested. I just sat down on the floor and continued reading it. Soon I reached 50 pages and I thought I should read the book fully and so I found a comfortable chair and read the whole book in one sitting. Many a times my eyes filled with tears (it is not surprising anyway, I am a typical cancerian - emotional and sensitive).
I finished the book just before the library closed and sat there for atleast 10 minutes pondering over the greatest love story I ever read. Contrary to popular opinion I think that, in this case also, the movie didnt reach to upto the beauty of the book. I really cant figure out what made me read a book whose story I knew fully (as I had seen the movie), yet move me so deeply. Whatever the reason I am glad that I read the book. Try it, I am sure you would too...
Book Review: If you're realistic, get off this webpage! Summary: 5 Stars
I have spent the past half hour reading the posted reviews of this book. I'm not all that surprised that there are so many negative reviews. The book is slow and appears to be specifically targeted to the romantic - the Harlequin romance readers, the lonesome housewife. However, I am none of those things. It took me several months to finish reading the book. A friend gave it to me, and I just couldn't get interested in it. However, when I finally got into the middle of it, I couldn't put it down. The book is a reflection of the type of romance that every woman dreams of. It starts out slow and builds to something so powerful that you dont realize the scope of it until it's gone (or until after you read the book). I think that the problem most people have when they give it negative reviews is that they impose their realities on it. Lighten up! Enjoy the fantasy! Let go and have fun! This book took me out of my stuffy world and freed my sense of adventure and fantasy. (and just for you hohummers out there - four years after I read the book, I did have an experience similar to the one in the story...So, earthshattering romances do happen!) This book is for the senses, not the mind. So, don't think, just read. You'll have a wonderful time!
Book Review: Quiero ponerlo en español para los de habla hispana... Summary: 5 Stars
Book Review: I didn't want the story to end. Summary: 5 Stars
When I finished reading The Bridges of Madison County, my heart just stopped because I didn't want it to end. Through the authors words, I felt like I was there seeing the story being acted out before my eyes. For those who thought that this book was stupid, you should read it again. The story is one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read not like the usual romance stories that are around these days. It tells of the story of 'real' love and life as it happens. I'm sure that there are thousands of people out there in the world, whose love story follows much of what Robert James Waller has written. My own parents love story is much like this. They had to sacrifice so much and yet they loved each other until the very end. To those again who hated the book, you haven't learnt the meaning of what a pure and lasting love is all about.
Book Review: Hold Onto Your Heart Summary: 5 Stars
I read this book in a 4 hour period on a crisp fall afternoon...and it changed my life. "Tis better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all"....and Francesca and Robert did it more wonderfully and masterfully than anything I've ever read. My reality melted away as I was immersed in this timeless love story. I smiled, I laughed, my heart was warmed, and I cried....please buy this book, and set aside time alone to read it in one sitting...it will affect you deeply, you will find yourself thinking about it for weeks, months, even years afterwards..and it will affect the way you look at love and life. I cannot urge you enough, if you are a romantic, you will LOVE this book. Lose yourself in it.
