I get depressed when I think about the fact that some people actually thought this was a good book. A friend recommended this book to me, insisting that I read it because it was so great. That recommendation was a sure sign that the friendship was doomed.
The writing is laughably bad. The book is maudlin beyond comprehension. The narration is pretentious, smug, and condescending.
