Book Reviews of The Boy Who Saved Baseball

Book Review: Justin's The Boy who saved Baseball book review
Summary: 5 Stars

I read a fiction book titled The Boy who Saved Baseball by John H. Ritter. It is a fiction book set in the middle east of Dillontown, California.

The main characters in this story are Tom Gallagher, Doc Althheimer, Maria, Will, Cruz de-la Cruz, Rachael, Frankie, Dante del-gato, Hollis B, Mr. Jones, Clifford, Ramon, Cody, and Dodge Bullet. They were all in the problem and the solution to the big problem. The Boy who Saved Baseball is a great book for kids age 9-14. It shows how important not giving up is and it shows that everybody can be a winner. In the story Tom Gallagher a boy who plays baseball for the Dillontown Wildcats finds out that his friend Doc Althheimer is going to sell the baseball field that they play in and all his land and most of the land around it. He mostly spends his time riding his horse. But one day this kid named Cruz de-la Cruz comes to town to see Dante Delgado a former baseball player that lives in Dillontown. Except that he lives with high spike walls and security. They get past that and get him to coach their team.

The main problem of the book occurs when Doc Althheimer is going to make a bet on Tom's team if they lose all their land will be somebody else's. The biggest problem is that the game is a week away and they are really bad at baseball they lose every year. So it's up to the coach and the kids to make themselves better at baseball before they play the big game. If they don't they will lose their land forever unless they buy it back.

My favorite part of the book was when Tom hit a pop-fly homerun and won the game for his team and got the money and land. The sad thing was that Doc Althheimer died that day and he wrote a will in Tom's notebook that said that if he died then Tom would get everything he had because his son was dead. I liked this part because it was very exciting, but sad.

I really liked this book because something like this could happen in life. Whether it is in Dillontown, California, or in Connecticut. I would recommend it to everyone who likes sports books and who is in the range of ages 9-14. The Boy who Saved Baseball is a very exciting and heart-stopping book.

Summary of The Boy Who Saved Baseball

Tom Gallagher is in a tight spot. The fate of the Dillontown team rests on the outcome of one baseball game, winner take all. If Tom's team loses, they lose their field too. But how can they possibly win? Just when everything seems hopeless, a mysterious boy named Cruz de la Cruz rides into town and claims to know the secret of hitting. Not to mention the secrets of Dante Del Gato, Dillontown's greatest hitter ever. Since he walked away from the game years ago, Del Gato hasn't spoken a word to anyone. But now he might be Tom's only hope for saving his hometown. From the award-winning author of Over the Wall and Choosing Up Sides comes this imaginative tale of one boy's struggle to preserve the spirit of the game he loves.
