Book Review: Hubbub About Vocabulary!
Summary: 5 Stars
In my first grade room, I had a boy who could read at a sixth grade level. However, since the books at that level didn't fit his interest, I gave him this book with vocabulary that I figured he didn't know. Not only did he love this book, but he also started using the vocabulary words while speaking and in his writing!
Children get excited when objects or events are described in amazing detail. This book does exactly that and even teaches the kids new words! The illustrations are amazing with even more words in the pictures that are not in the text.
This is by far one of my favorite recent children's books! I HIGHLY recommend it for any classroom, but especially those working on writing and vocabulary.
Summary of The Boy Who Loved Words
Words. Selig collects them, ones that stir his heart (Mama!) and ones that make him laugh (giggle). But what to do with so many luscious words? After helping a poet find the perfect words for his poem (lozenge, lemon, and licorice), he figures it out: His purpose is to spread the word to others.
