Book Reviews of The Bon Appetit CookbookBook Review: A Must Have! Summary: 5 Stars
This has become my new favorite cookbook! My fiance slid it surreptitiously onto his book shelf when we were first dating, hoping that someday I'd like him well enough to cook some of the dishes in it for him. Three years later, I took it off the shelf and began with the molassas-brined turkey and gingersnap cookie gravy. I was hooked from that first bite on. The recipe was so ingenious that we served it at our wedding the following year to the surprised delight of everyone there - including the caterer! This year I am slowly working my way through every chapter. So far, the only trouble I've encountered is a lack of certain ingredients in my local stores - but that can happen with any cookbook. The preparation methods are mainly very easy to perform. There have been no missing instructions or typos. Those recipes that are a bit labor intensive are always worthwhile when tasted, and there is good cultural variety in every catagory. This book is a true not-to-be-missed!
Book Review: Beautiful cookbook with grerat recipes! Summary: 5 Stars
Having been a Bon Appetit Magazine subscriber for several years, I had to have the Bon Appetit Cookbook when it came out. It is a beautiful cookbook-the burnt-orange color is striking and the recipes are well laid out and easy to follow. The titles of the recipes are in the burnt-orange color and stand out-better than the Gourmet Cookbook's titles being in a pale yellow. Several of the recipes that I have made from the magazine are included in the book, as well as some I have not seen. The Classic Saganaki with Olives and Lemon is a great appetizer, and the Grilled Chicken with Red Onion and Mint Kebabs with a Greek Salad is a great summer meal. The only thing I would like to have seen in the book was the actual date the recipes appeared in the magazine and maybe source cited at the end of each recipe. The Bon Appetit Cookbook is a great addition to any cook's library! The free subscription to the magazine with the purchase of the cookbook is an added bonus!
Book Review: Seasoned Cook Summary: 5 Stars
I have both of Bon Appetits cookbooks, "The Bon Appetit Cookbook" and "bon appetit fast easy fresh," and have subscribed or purchased their magazine for the past 25 years. And given my experience with Bon Appetits recipes, as well as, the changes the magazine has made over the past 25 years, I feel "The Bon Appetit Cookbook" is a true reflection of the best of Bon Appetit, and "bon appetit fast easy fresh" is a true reflection of what Bon Appetit has become. I am a seasoned cook, who will not waste my time or money preparing contrived recipes and since there are very few good cookbooks on the market currently, I recommend "The Bon Appetit Cookbook" to those people who enjoy cooking and good food.
Book Review: My new favorite cookbook Summary: 5 Stars
This cookbook has recipes for just about everything you could ever want, as well as "notes from the test kitchen" on things like how to devein shrimp and caramelize sugar. I also own the Gourmet cookbook, but I find that Bon Appetit's book is much better to actually use in the kitchen. For one thing, it's easier to read (the recipe titles in Bon Appetit are actually legible!), and I think it has a much more attractive design, with inserts of recipe photos scattered throughout the book. It's also a little more mainstream in terms of the difficulty level of the recipes, so it's perfect for everyday cooking and entertaining. A great new addition to my kitchen!
Book Review: The BEST & most CLASSY recipes! Summary: 5 Stars
I originally found this at a used book store in Chicago and gave it to my neighbor. I hesitated to buy it because I would only find 1 or 2 recipes from the monthly magazine that I could cook with confidence and have the ingredients for. THIS cookbook changed my mind. The recipes are fun, impressive, and easy to cook. Some take some time, but it's worth the wait & effort. The "cooking steps" themselves are easy though. I have since bought myself a copy from Amazon and now am getting another for a family member. My neighbor and I have our friendly "cook-offs" using recipes from here. Our husbands are VERY thankful!!!
