Book Reviews of The Best Democracy Money Can Buy

Book Review: Brutal depiction of the lies we are told
Summary: 5 Stars

Greg Palast's book was one of the most important books I've read in my LIFETIME. Like many of my fellow Americans, I, for most of my life, had the idealistic notion that our government and its leaders, while faulty, functioned for the common good of humanity. This book turned that notion on its head, inflamed my democratic passion, and started me on a pursuit for the truth. Whether or not you agree with Palast is quite irrevelant. Any good citizen will at least keep an open mind and investigate his accusations. I will admit that many of Palast's conclusions are based on circumstantial evidence but so is much of our daily life. What astounds me about America is that Americans seem to discard anything as false if does not appear in the mainstream media. One must ask why it is so difficult to believe that huge corporations (who own the media) can control what we see. Why is it that we never hear about the misdeeds of the IMF and World Bank? Why didn't we hear about the irregularities in the Florida elections of 2000? And what about the California energy crisis? Palast wrote about the energy misdeeds BEFORE the Texas companies he accused were later indicted. And if you think this book merely reams the conservative Right, think again. Clinton and Gore are reamed here as well. The underlying theme of Palast's book is that citizens must stop imitating what is spoon fed to them and do some intellectual work on their own. If the average citizen cannot put two and two together, we all risk losing our Republic.

Book Review: A Must Read
Summary: 5 Stars

As bitter this sort of truth be -- that is, to both patriots and would-be patriots (well, at least they're trying) -- it's now the harshest of realities.

Because it effectsd njot merely us sinners but also the still unborn yet to come, it does, however, needs to be seen clearly and understood -- if we don't want to let it happen yet again.

We have been witrness to the abuse of our religion 9in the blatant pursuit of power as well as that which usually serves best to bu7y it: money.

Take notice then and learn from these past 6.5 years. That's the only way not to repeat our most recent political past. Live and learn. Even so, fool me once, shame of you Bush et al. But, fool me again, shame on me!

A must read if myou truly want to be finally now a learned and wordly wise citizen of the now somewhat tarnished (if not sorely debased) but still greatest nation on earth (in spite of the Bushies best efforts to bleed it dry in particular, as well as wreck it generally) our own United States of America .

Book Review: Palast Does Michael Moore One Better
Summary: 5 Stars

I have enjoyed and recommend Michael Moore's two most recent books. However, as a practitioner of rigorous, tireless research into the subject of Bush and his dubious administration, Greg Palast is miles ahead of Mr. Moore. Palast has cultivated numerous insiders in Washington and in corporate offices, who are only too willing to pass on incriminating information about wrongdoing by senior people in government and business. Palast is as much a detective as a journalist. If Moore uses a shovel to dig into his stories, Palast uses an excavator. I admire Palast for his energy level, cleverness and tenacity. My jaw dropped many times as I read his book, finding it hard to believe that people in positions of authority could be so greedy, crooked and nasty. Thank goodness we have people like Greg Palast to offer sound alternatives to the pap we get from the complicit "media giants".

Book Review: If a Constitution falls in the woods when no one is listening, does anybody care?
Summary: 5 Stars

I am unfortunately not suprised by any of the revelations in this book. It seems that the vast majority of Americans simply do not care what kind of scumbags claim to "represent" us. Unfortunately, I do not own a multibillion dollar corporation, so I suppose I do not deserve representation. Hey, didn't the Declaration of Independence say something about people not being represented properly?

Oh, pardon me, I have mentioned America's TRUE patriotic roots. God forbid anyone not agree with Dick & Bush's neo-Nazi (or is that neo- conservative? It's hard to tell.) version of patriotism.

Anyhow, I'll save a seat for you other treasonous free thinkers in the prison camp, or Hell. We all know that those are the only two suitable places for those who do not agree with the "decider".

Book Review: Insight Into the Games Politicians & Governments Play
Summary: 5 Stars

The first time I read this book it was because I'd heard an interview with the author on NPR and felt compelled to get the whole story. It's a fast, entertaining and SCARY read. Don't skip any parts if you can help it - it's not just about corporate and political corruption, it details (with evidence) how this world of ours works and what we need to keep our eyes open for when the bad guys get into our neighborhoods. The sections on what US corporations do in other countries is APPALLING. The sections on the country-destroying terms of IMF and World Bank loans is HORRIFYING. And, if you've ever wondered what the heck public utility privatization is all about, this explains it - AND IT'S UGLY!
